Stay or go?

UFA:
D-Mac
Brown
Hightower
JCJ
Karras
Slater
White
Bolden
Hoyer
Folk
Collins
Bentley

Meyers is an RFA.

Most of that list unfortunately is a go. Wish Brown could stay on the field. JCJ is hopefully a stay.

Who else do you cut?
It's easier to say who to keep. I keep Brown, Karras, JC, Folk. Everyone else can leave with my heartfelt appreciation. Still not a Wise fan. Release poor JoeJuan, and maybe Uche and Winovich. Uche has speed but doesn't seem to have instincts. I wish I knew about Wino. I wish he played more, at least he is energetic and plays with speed and effort. Jamie Collins has nothing left. Give BIll Murray some game time. Personally I think the offense is in good shape. Defense slow and tentative. Bill needs to designate Steve and let him do the job or my favorite idea would be to bring in Vic Fangio so Bill can get back to being head coach.

The man just had a really solid draft, and an above avg. FA. He took a team with a rookie QB to the playoffs, and you want to trade him to the Giants for draft capital? So, that what? Who are you going to bring in? Bill leaves, that means most of the entire staff would leave. You’d be starting all over with a brand new coach at almost every level. All new FO guys. The works. Then they would gut the roster to build it the way that they want it. That would take years, but good thing that draft capital we got by trading away the GOAT coach is now all moving onto their second contract.

The Jets traded a coach to the Patriots, that worked really well for them.

Let me elaborate.
I don’t want to invest a ton of cap to JC Jackson we need to rebuild the D line, the Linebackers, O line, WRs. Spending so much cap on one player is not the solution.
We need new talent all over the team as well as new coaches.
Honestly this would be a terrible end for Belichick. If im Kraft right now everything’s on the table including looking at Belichick.
Maybe you trade Belichick to the Giants for some picks.
I’d franchise and trade JC, we need all the picks we can get.
Honestly that post someone made about the Colts pain in the locker room was Karma that led up to this.
We need to scrap the old ways todays NFL is not the NFL from
20 years ago. We need Mac to work on throwing power and getting stronger.
I would love to be a fly on the wall for Belichicks, Krafts meeting.

Here is a really good suggestion for you, don’t try to elaborate again.

D-Mac - Returns at a discount. I don't see him ready to hang it up yet.
Brown - An online needy team will overpay for two years of Brown again, and like Collins he will be back with the team in 2024.
Hightower - Most likely to retire.
JCJ - Franchised, will depart in 2023.
Karras - Will return on a reasonable contract.
Slater - Probably retire
White/Bolden - We have room for 1.
Hoyer - Keep him if he wants to stay. He's cheap for an above average backup
Folk - Absolutely worth keeping
Collins - Hope he returns at a cheap rate just to have some experience on the LB core
Bentley - Let him walk

Agree with this bar White, would never turn him down if he can actually play.

I feel you here. I love this guy...almost as much as K Faulk (and that's saying something). I felt icky saying "go" but I just don't know how well he's going to do after this injury, and Bolden, while no James White, stepped in somewhat adequately. White is an all-time Pats great IMO...but he fills a need that's pretty low down the list from where I sit.

I suppose one could make an argument that he's a decent pass blocker in the backfield, likely better than anyone we have right now.

I think White can be brought back cheap though. Don’t see why we couldn’t bring him back on a 1 year

D-Mac - retires
Brown - Resign, but not long term
Hightower - retires
JCJ - franchise - wouldn't be surprised if he was shopped as a trade though with so many teams with multiple first round picks
Karras - resigns
Slater - resigns
White - given another one year deal
Bolden - resigned to short term deal
Hoyer - retires
Folk - resign
Collins - leaves in free agency
Bentley - leaves in free agency

Meyers is an RFA. - Given second round tender

Well this is what Bill had to say at todays press conference…

"You could argue there were elements of last night's game in some other games, but last night's game was the least competitive game we played," he said. "Is that what we are? Or is that a bad night? We'll see when we start playing again next year, I guess."

The only way we’ll see next season if this is who the team is or just a bad night is if you run the same **** back next season. Is that the plan Bill. So set in his ways, I wouldn’t be surprised.

That couldn't hurt I suppose.

On players we missed this year, anyone know the contract situation for Jonathan Jones and James White?

White’s a free agent.

Jones has one more year left on his deal, base salary of $5.4m with per game bonuses giving him up to another $0.8m. Free agent after 2022.

D-Mac - stay, if only to prevent the full VOID year cut. I think he's retiring, so it's probably moot, as he won't get top $.
Brown - stay with lots of availability per-game bonuses, which should be NLTBE, given his recent history.
Hightower - think he retires
JCJ - stay
Karras - stay if the price is right.
Slater - I think he retires
White - if he can play, and they can get him back at the same price, keep him
Bolden - cheap, yes, more money, no
Hoyer - shrug
Folk - unless they find a replacement, I hope he stays
Collins - only if cheap - he's a role-player
Bentley - same as Collins

Meyers is an RFA - 2nd round tender

If you've been paying attention the last month or so, you know that it's not just a bad night. The Pats got their pants pulled down around their ankles in the playoffs and that's a trend that's been going on since the bye (not counting a blowout laugher against the worst team in football).

I’ll cut Chris a little slack. Definitely agree that we need to find a way to get more draft picks. Seems to be some good depth at WR and CB’s.

Agree completely. And even though they won the game my concerns started when the Titans ran all over them without Henry. The run defense sucked for the rest of the year, especially up the middle.

I think there are plenty of areas that need to be addressed this off-season, and that includes the coaching. That doesn’t mean you fire everyone who had issues on their units, but it does mean you review it and figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. Too many slow starts, costly penalties, drops, and other mistakes to make it anywhere in the postseason. I think you look at every unit, break down their issues, snd address them in free agency, the draft, and game preparation. As others have mentioned they have to get much faster on defense, and they really need to add playmakers at WR. Bourne and Meyers are good 3rd and 4th options, but they need two playmakers at WR to stretch and open the field, and to allow them to compete in high scoring games. And whether it is in relation to their off-season additions, or on field approach they are going to have to become more aggressive on the whole. I understand why they had to bring Jones along slowly this season, but they have to give him the talent and opportunity to open it up in the future.

I have been trying to cut Chris more slack overall this season, but I have a really hard time cutting anyone who wants to get rid of Belichick slack. I have no problem with looking at the team critically snd being aggressive in making changes, but that doesn’t extend to incredible stupidity.

I’m guessing you didn’t watch the entire press conference?

D-Mac - Stay, but only at a reduced price

Trent Brown - Same as DMac

Hightower - GO

JCJ - STAY... A top-of-the-market CB deserves - and will receive from someone - a top-of-the-market salary

Karras - STAY

Slater - GO

White - STAY

Bolden - STAY

Hoyer - STAY

Folk - STAY

Collins - GO

Bentley - ONE YEAR AT MINIMUM WAGE ONLY

Karras, Folk, White, Bolden & Hoyer won't break the bank, even in the open market.

I think you made some good comments and points. I would expect Brown to come back though....I have read from a lot of posters say they expect JC to leave, but one way or the other, I think he'll be back next year. I think we get one more year out of Slater. Agree that D-MAC will be back, hopefully at a discount......
