I don't see any way around GB for TB, not with all their missing or injured players.

If the Pats win the SB they'll probably have to beat GB with a great QB and the best active HC with a 39-9 career record and a .809 winning %.

It's better to let a player go five years too early than a year late.

I think the 2000-2001 Pats was a better turnaround thanks to Mo Lewis.

I hope that all the snowflakes don't melt when I point this out, but Bill is 4 games under .500 without TB. Like I said, it's about the players, not the coaches. Is Matt LaFleur the new GOAT because he has a .809 winning %?

The 2000 Pats were not as bad as their record indicated. Bunch of young players and played hard but were too flawed and schedule too hard to do any better than they did. Still 9 out of their 11 losses were by a score or less and unlike the 2020 Pats they got better toward the end of the season. We like to talk about how close we were to beating more good teams this year - the same was true for the 2000 team. They were really only out of one game, the Lions debacle on Thanksgiving.

Compare that to the 2020 Pats. Last year's Pats weren't a middling or weak team. They were just bad and got worse as the season went on. They were 7-9 with a roster that really had no business winning more than 3 games. There was nothing promising about that team to take forward to this season, and the future looked very bleak.

It doesn't anymore. The 2021 team is a good one. It was an impressive turnaround. Bill did good this year as coach and GM. I don't think there will be much talk about moving on from Bill this offseason like there was last winter.

As for comparing the 2000-2001 and 2020-2021 turnarounds I think that comparison can be made once we find out how the story of the 2021 Pats season concludes.

IMO Great QB > great coach. Peyton Manning took a crap coach to a Super Bowl which proves to me that players are more important.

As for BB sucks talk I think that's over now maybe other than for fodder for Skip and Shannon and the hot take shows. BB without Brady just coached the Patriots to the playoffs with a 10+ win season with a rookie QB picked at #15 overall and a bunch of new pieces on offense and defense. If the Pats can win a playoff game now then that puts Mac in some exclusive company and if they somehow win the AFC he stands on his own. They have a chance to do something historic.

No they weren't good but it does show IMO they weren't a mess either. They shot themselves in the foot a lot like the 2021 Pats did against good teams.

Last year's Pats were just a mess. There was no sign coming out of last year that the team was going to compete in 2021. The future looked bleak and the Patriots fanbase saw Brady win a SB and got really cranky about it.

Another thing, the most important thing, they took from 2020 was cap space. They cleared an obscene amount of cap space and prepared themselves for 2021. The near 200 million they spent in free agency didn't just appear in their account, they didn't find a suitcase of money washed up on the beach... if one doesn't understand the salary cap, at least the cliff notes... then one can't possibly understand NFL roster building.

In Aug of 2021 it was pretty clear they were going to be better than 2020.

Great coaches find great players, that's why great QB's more often than not are playing in Super Bowls. If you break those teams down by position groups, you'll find they have great players represented in every unit; OL/DL/LB/DB/Weapons.

Deshaun Watson had the best season of his career last year, he was the best statistical QB in the NFL... the Texans won 4 games.

Coaching and personnel is more important than magical unicorn QB's... great players don't just appear out of thin air. Great teams find great players. With 63 man rosters, football is the ultimate TEAM sport.

Yep. BB's philosophy cascades down to scouting, drafts, FA approach, coaches, contracts, cap mgt, PR, player development, etc.

BB finds and develops players that perform in his system.

At the end of the day that's it.

Could be Brady or Brandon King or Mike Wright. Doesn't matter.
