OT: Patrick Mahomes & the Chiefs Offense

Does anyone see that defense limiting us to 10 points in non- inclement weather?

highyly doubt it. If we go against them id be concerned mainly off them having more playoff experience as a unit and , if in arrowhead, the refs. Home field would be incredibly crucial, would like our chances at Gillette.

i dont see why our offense couldn’t execute something similar to what tb did to them last year. Their wr didn’t do a ton, it was mostly te/rb. Maybe not quite the explosion without tfb, but a very efficient attack

Nope. No chance. Their defense has improved over the gutter it was in during the first quarter of the season, but they’re still not good. They need to blitz in order to generate any pressure. We’d torch them.

All I know is if the Patriots were winning games in the same manner, we would all be saying "wins are wins" and chastising anyone who criticized the way those wins happened.
Not really a fair comparison. Mahomes was believed to be the "baby goat" just last year before Brady and the Bucs curb stomped them. His play has dropped off a ton and we were mentioning that with regards to Brady in 2014 so I think it is more to fair to question what is going on and if they are going to be able to have the same success as last year.

Should this be in the nfl forum.

Anyways Mahomes needs a 3rd pass catcher

The numbers still aren't bad (26 PPG) , but obviously there is a drop off.

I don't think Mahomes is the problem. He has no running game with two excellent weapons, but only two.

Not coincidentally this streak also coincides mostly with the loss of Sammy Watkins.
He's thrown some incredibly stupid interceptions this year.

Does he? I see his guys open all over the field. His inaccuracy problems and poor decision making have been eye popping this year.

Who's the guy after Hill and Kelce? I forget who they used to have but isn't it a big dropoff

They have Hardman, Pringle, Robinson and Gordon. For sure it is a drop off after Hill and Kelce but that would be true of any position players given how good those 2 are. They also have CEH in the run and pass game. When I watch their offense, I don't see guys being blanketed every down. Rarely actually. What I see are guys typically open in the flat or on slants and Mahomes just isn't seeing them or he is inaccurate. His pocket presence has been so awful this year. It is almost like the SB game is stuck in his head like a broken record and he just can't stop bailing even when the protection is fine.

I think NE is going to meet KC in the playoffs....and it will be at Gillette.

Bill will once again slow down their offense. Chiefs will probably makes a late push/scare as they always do, but NE ends their season.

I agree. I think it will be our toughest game though as Mahomes does tend to get hot against us especially in the second half. I also think it is a game where Mac hopefully comes of age and leads the team to victory in a close fourth quarter.

As we've seen with many teams, they get exhausted defending the track meet. They key is score while your D is holding them down. If you allow them to stay in the game, they will catch on and make the late game push as they’ve done to many teams in the past.

Pats have a more powerful ground game than they did in 2018.

By us do you mean the Pats or Tompa Bay?

The run game is very good but the pass game is not nearly as potent which won us the 2018 AFC championship game. I hope if this matchup does happen that Jones has a coming of age game and is able to win it for us in the 4th quarter.

Mahomes has sucked the last 5 games despite winning them all

Would'nt say he sucked against LV

The relevant question is: How well have the Chiefs actually been playing and how good are they? How Patriots' fans and Chiefs' fans react on their respective forum(s) following games has little-to-nothing to do with how good the teams actually are.

I haven't watched much of KC this season so I can't comment on how good they are. My sense is that the honeymoon period is over and they've plateaued. Still a top-10, possibly top-5 team, and they still have a lot of talent and explosiveness, can beat anyone on any given day if they play to their potential, but they have flaws that aren't going away and can be exploited by smart, tough, well-coached, physical teams ... sounds familiar.

The Chiefs are frauds.

To be the best you must defeat the best. The post season is where you achieve that. The Mahomes Chiefs have never beaten a HOF QB or HOF HC in the post season. 0 - 4 to date.

Loss to BB
Loss to Brady
Loss to Arians
Loss to Brady

Why 0 - 4?

Because the HOF HC can have the best gameplan in history, but its meaningless unless his QB can go out and execute. Its essentially 2 games in 1 because you're competing against the QB who controls his team. And, you're also battling against the HC who devises the gameplan and adjusts (or not) during the game. The HC generally calls the shots and instructs the QB on what to do.

If the Pats are lucky enough to make the post season and face Buffalo and win, they did not defeat a HOF HC and QB.

If the Pats face the Chiefs and are victorious then NE did defeat a HOF HC and QB.

This isn't true in my opinion.

The 2018 passing attack, on aggregate, was better because of consistency and familiarity but they weren't in a different realm than this team. You had Brady throwing to Gronk, Edelman, White, and that was essentially it. Hogan was a shell of himself and Dorsett was a disappointment. They were solid because of continuity over the years, but Gronk was wearing down mentally/physically and Edelman had lost half-a-step. That was a run-first team that didn't have a high-flying, potent passing attack. The overtime drive against Kansas City and the Super Bowl winning drive against Los Angeles were flashes in the pan for a passing game that took a backseat during the latter part of the 2018 season.

This year's team isn't a dynamic, high-flying passing offense either, but the 2018 team wasn't significantly better, IMO. It's also necessary to consider that Mac has been growing into a larger role over the course of this season (which is understandable since he's a rookie), along with the development of chemistry with his pass-catchers in that context; I think this year's team is on an upward trajectory in terms of offensive production in general, but especially passing the ball, and I think they are capable of winning games via the air if they need to (assuming non-hurricane conditions).
