Bill Belichick appreciation thread

BB has now 288 RS wins and 319 total wins including PO as HC...5 more wins to tie it with Halas for the second all time, 28 wins to tie with Shula (40 to tie most RS wins).

with Mac seemingly being the next franchise QB, I see BB at least next 3-4 years being HC if health issues don't stop him

Still wasn't a good decision to kick Brady out. They thought he'd collapse in 2 years time, instead he's leading the league in YPG and TDs. You really want to go there?
I'd love to.

(1) the 2018 team floundered
(2) a reset was necessary
(3) Brady understandibly wanted to play for a "win now"
(4) NE got their stuff together and reloaded in the draft & FA
(5) both teams are winning at a similar clip
(6) despite Brady's unique excellence and longevity, it's LIKELY Mac will still be in the league in 4-5 years, whereas Brady LIKELY won't.

I love me some Brady, but I unlike many posters, I'm not IN love with him. I don't think NE is 8-4 with Brady in 2021 because I don't think the reset occurs to the point it did if he stuck around.

He'd definitely love to overtake Shula

One coach I don't appreciate quite as much today is Mike Vrabel, the guy's an overly self-assured turd. He dissed BB after the game -- ran by him/acknowledged him but didn't stop to shake hands and kept running to the locker room.
I didn't see it. I would like to point out that we've seen Bill talk to the opposing coaches pre-game about avoiding the post game mess. I wouldn't read too much into it.

He's hurting his draft position with all these wins. Very frustrating.

And he completely botched last year too! If they'd just sucked it up and lost to the Jets, they could have picked Mac Jones at 12 overall, but instead had to settle for drafting Mac Jones 15 overall!

I always thought that his disdain for pressers were more to do with a waste of his time, if they were not mandated he wouldn't do it. In his mind he has more pressing things to do. One of those silly NFL Rules like that he has to wear NIKE branded gear on the sideline (what would Tom Landry have done??)..

That, and there's only so many times you can answer the same filler questions before you just start losing your mind:

"Coach, would you have preferred to score more points in this game, while your opponent, in turn, scored fewer points?"

"Coach, the Bills have a really good passing attack, could you break down how you plan to stop that so everyone in the world now knows your gameplan?"

"Coach, you gave up 270 yards on the ground today. Are you happy with that?"

"Coach, <insert X player on another team that isn't playing the Pats in the near future> did something. Please talk about that something?"

I know what you're saying. I think if that was the case Vrabel would've just waved and run off the field. But he ran directly at BB, BB stopped, Vrabel looked at him and kept running. Because these two have a "history" I watched through binoculars and it came off as kind of an odd drive-by non-handshake. I think Vrabel was pissed about the game and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

It'd be sweet poetry if BB retires after passing Shula in total wins including playoffs, but not in regular season wins. Be like mugging someone and taking everything of value but letting them keep their butt plug.

Vrabel is a lot less likeable these days than he ever was here

Still the GOAT.

This team is the class of the AFC.
My father made a point yesterday and I think I agree....There is more of a drop off between BB and the 2nd best coach in the league than there is between the best player at their position and the 2nd best player at their position in any sport including football...... He's the GOAT and probably counts for at least 3 points a game....I still think last years coaching job was amazing, but this year has also been incredible...

I was all over Bill the Coach and Bill the GM from the second half of 2019 onward. Many of his in game and personnel decisions were head scratchers and the team was just bad over that stretch. But the ship seems to be righted now. They finally have playmakers, seemingly on both sides of the ball, and the quarterback is playing like a guy on his second contract. If he (meaning Bill the Coach) takes this team to the playoffs it will go a long way in cementing Belichick's "legacy" (I ****ing dislike "legacy" talk) and proving it wasn't "all" Brady. Multiple playoff appearances and playoff wins post-Brady are a must to permanently quiet the media naysayers.

I hear you. Vrabel qualifies as coaching flavor du jour to me. He has done a nice job in Tennessee, but hasn't won anything to warrant the heaping praise IMO. I get it, however, the talking heads have to talk about someone else besides Bill.

Tunescribe, I noticed that as well...I was wondering what was up with that....I always thought there was a lot of respect between both.

I’ve never liked separating Bill the GM and Bill the coach into categories. IMO, it‘s all the same thing. He’s a guy who is 100% responsible for which players are on the team and the ultimate performance. So when the team is playing like this, there’s no one who can possibly compare to him since few even have that level of responsibility.

Before the game during warmups Vrabel shared hugs and niceties with Kraft and Drew Bledsoe, didn't see him connect with BB. Vrabel reportedly had a habit of needling BB as a player and intentionally tweaked him during the Titans' two wins he coached vs. New England.

By the way, it was cool seeing Bledsoe shake hands and have a brief chat with Mac pre-game.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense.

I don't know about "the talking heads heaping praise on Vrabel" because I don't listen to them enough. But it was clear yesterday that he's done an excellent job as a coach there - the personnel, the team culture, the game plans, the play calling all appeared very good. And it is a small market team in a part of the country that isn't a magnet to players.

So why be a jerk when you are doing well? Andy why not just appreciate Bill? Just a waste.

It's also not really something you can easily separate, because part of being a good GM is getting guys that mesh well with your coach. BB may not always pick the player with the most raw talent, and sometimes that doesn't work out well (Harry over Brown/Samuel, or Richards over... ANYBODY), but if part of his evaluation process is to identify guys he thinks fit the scheme, AND the results on the field are good because his coaching is taking hold, that's a successful pick/signing.
