Where does J.C Jackson rank and what is he worth?

Flowers wasn’t a top 25 defensive lineman. That contract was ridiculous, and we all knew it. In addition, the Patriots scheme doesn’t require a guy like him.

Jackson is probably a top 5 CB. The price may be high, but at least you’re getting a top player. The Patriots paid a ton for Revis and Gilmore. Without a stud #1 CB, they’re going to struggle badly.
That's really the fundamental question with Jackson. I don't think he's an elite man to man cover CB but he makes up for some of it by playing extremely well in zone, has elite ball skills and isn't afraid to tackle. He's a great fit for this defense.

Is that $18m a year? I'm still not sure but if they spent it on him it wouldn't be the worst decision.

The larger question is how does that impact other players they want to sign as JC will have a big cap number.

Add a healthy Bodden to the 2011 team and they likely win the Super Bowl. Bodden > Edelman as a CB.

Also a good bet that it helps them beat the Jets in 2010. With a decent shot at a Super Bowl win.

Thats 2 more rings.
Bodden certainly helps, but they win in 2011 with a healthy Gronk. He could barely move in that Super Bowl and was used mostly as a decoy.

He would've helped in 2010 as well, but not sure it would've been enough as Rex smothered the Pats O. However, Pats O made some careless mistakes not caused by Rex's D.

The Lions gave him 2m more per year, 2 years earlier, than the Pats paid Judon. Wild.

As for Jackson, I really don't know how BB sees him. I see him as a top-10, top-15 guy. Really good, but not a 2019 Gilmore guy, or a Ramsey. I think they really need him if they want to build something special in the next couple of years.

He's young, still growing, still learning - I hope they can get him for 4/64-4/74, and I think he'd be worth it. With Mills moving to Safety, Bryant ready to cover Jones, or complement him, they're now a legitimate #2 corner (Wade?) and re-signing Adrian Phillips (please) away from having a very secure secondary for three years.

If you don't pay JC Jackson, what is the alternative? There's no one appealing in free agency. And the draft is a crapshoot. Do you trot out a poor secondary? If they have a plan, sure. Didn't pay Talib because they had revis. Didn't pay Butler because they had Gilmore. And seemingly traded Gilmore because they are confident in JC Jackson.

You need to pay these guys and strike while your QB is still on a rookie contract. Because when that contract is over you are going to have to pay him alot of money. You don't waste your QBs rookie contract years to save money. Look at the chiefs and Seahawks since their QBs got paid

I really hope we keep JC, give him the money they've had earmarked for Gilmore the last 4 years. He's the closest thing we have as a #1CB option.
Either use our 1st pick on a CB next year, or maybe Wade can emerge as the top talent he was at OSU.

You don't have to preface it by saying that you're slow to catch on; this is the default for you.

.
Seeing how I no longer acknowledge your existence on this board, as a result you have a complex about it and choose to insult me.

So be it.

Because you are not just slow to catch on but too stupid to realize it, I don't reply to any of your comments to my posts because of your constant *****ing and complaining about the same **** over and over again. Josh. John Carroll. Drafts. BB sucks. Wide receivers, etc. Your knowledge of football is shallow and as a self-proclaimed listener of Felger, that makes anything you say here worthless.

Your talking points are beyond monotonous and the main reason why no one on this board engages in any substantive dialogue with you. I tried telling you that before politely but it's clear you just want to be here to hammer away with your dumb-ass point of view when no one gives a ****.

If your goal was to provoke me just so someone will actually interact with you on the board, congratulations.

Now kindly **** off.

I just don't see Jackson as a top 5 corner. Think I would certainly take Ramey, Humphrey, White, Lattimore, Alexander, Gilmore, Howard over him - plus Horn and Surtain look like budding stars. He feels very Marcus Peters to me. A big playmaker who isn't a lockdown guy. Peters got 3 years $42m from Baltimore under 18 months ago.

And obviously there is an opportunity cost to signing him. We aren't going to have much cap space this upcoming season. $18m could be spent getting a premier wide receiver in, for example, or re-signing multiple players that we may have to let go if we sign Jackson.

I wouldn't be averse to franchising him and then trading him like a few teams have done recently with players. That way he doesn't get away for free.

If we franchise him, he has zero incentive to sign before July.

There is no trade until he signs.

So, the "opportunity cost" will be there until July. The $17M will count against us during March, April, May, June and part of July.

The only opportunity for the pats is for us to work with Jackson to get him to a team of his choice. Then, we could get some compensation. However, a team isn't going to give huge compensation AND play the player $20M a year. Jackson shouldn't take less, since he can sign in July for $17-18M and then repeat the process again next year.

Business is business. The team forced him to play for $3M this year, even though he was worth lots more. The risk for him was that he'd get injured or not have a solid year. After a solid year, he now is likely to wait and get his money. And yes, he owes the team thanks and consideration. IMO, he paid these dues by playing (and is playing very well) for $3M with no complaints.

Absolutely no to a WR. They already have 6 pass catchers. Would be a mistake from this mediocre front office around BB to have a below average secondary next year.

Seeing how I no longer acknowledge

And yet you were so triggered to spew 5 paragraphs. It's ok that you're wrong, the sooner you realize that's it's your default the happier you'll be as a fan.

I don't necessarily disagree and I'm not saying the Pats will do it. Just pointing out that other teams have franchised players and then traded them shortly after so it does happen. Chiefs traded a 2nd for Frank Clark and gave him a massive deal. 49ers gave up a 2nd and a massive deal for Dee Ford too.

This is the experience you want on this board. You want to pick a fight. Fine. We'll let the mods stop it.

You are a miserable piece of ****. You are a troll. You are wrong about everything. No one likes you here. I will drive you off this board. You will have no one to talk to and share your miserable existence with again.

All you need to do is not reply to this and it stops.

...or we can keep going.

Yet you keep replying. Sorry that your face is bright red and you are so triggered. Also grab a tissue for your tears. Don't engage me if you can't back up your wrong takes.

I'm having fun. This is what you want.

Every take you have is wrong. You are #1 ranked. Good for you.

All day.

Awesome. Well I'm still glad you did a total 180, saw the light, and now realize JC Jackson is a very valuable piece worth paying up to keep here. A little slow in the head but welcome to the party on this one. Being able to adjust your thinking is a sign of intelligence. Kudos to you for being open to information and adjusting your perspective.

I don't give a **** what you think. Nor does anyone else.

Keep commenting on my posts, though.

I enjoy calling you out for the loser you are.

I see we have a mini andyjohnson here. Good to know.
Yep. You deserve it.

Notice how I don't talk to anyone else like this? Maybe you are too drunk and stupid to notice?

Only dipshit, a-holes like you get treated this way by me.

..and it will continue.

Sorry, DUDE. Your comebacks are very lame and it's amusing to me how you're so triggered for being wrong about JC and then now agree. You must be a real hoot amongst your non-existent social circle in real life

They aren't comebacks.

It's genuinely what I think of you.

I have no respect for you.

You are a loser.
