Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Panthers

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

2021 Pats are road warriors. A road win a week after a west coast trip. I almost wish we were playing at Cleveland next week.

Don't overthink things, chief. Was simply remarking on how little he got involved.

Agholor was on the field for one of the fades and actually drew a DPI. The TEs and RBs were the game plan for the day. The WRs not so much. You have to acknowledge that Carolina has a very deep core of DBs with Bouye, Gilmore, Jackson, Henderson and Chinn..

Give JJ Taylor a real chance.

I don't see how BB can continually leave a RB off the game day roster. These guys are getting dinged up every week.
how many RBs do you think is enough? What other position should be left off to make the room?

Bill is already carrying four RBs, yesterday it was Harris, Bolden, Rham, and Jakob. And iirc he also used Jonnu out of the backfield. The RBs aren’t the only guys getting dinged up, need to carry enough depth at all positions and carrying another RB would just leave them thin somewhere else.

We're officially a 7 seed right now, and 1/2 game behind the Bills in the division. That's crazy.
I fully expect the Raiders, Steelers and Bengals to fade down the stretch. But the Chiefs and Browns to rise.
This game vs. Browns could be the tiebreaker of who makes the playoffs.

From Peter King's Monday column about teams he is bullish on:

2. New England. One coach told me over the weekend he thinks the Patriots are better than the Bills. “Excellent, deep defense,” he said, “and Mac Jones is every bit as good as Joe Burrow.” Interesting. The Pats are a half-game behind Buffalo, but there’s one important standings factor to remember: Buffalo hasn’t played the Jets yet, and New England has finished with the Jets. Jones has been terrific, quickly. Bills-Pats, twice in 21 days in December, should be fun.

This is the greatest win of Bill Belichick’s career.

We won this game two years ago when the boogie men shattered Sam Darnold’s confidence. He spiraled ever since and became a laughingstock. Eventually the Jets sucked so bad they got another high pick and decided to move on for Wilson. The Panthers who were a QB needy team traded for him last year to rebuild him. That move likely caused the Panthers to not go QB in the draft and allowed Mac Jones to fall to the Patriots. All setting up a climactic match up where the QB they let slip faced the QB they emotionally destroyed.

That is called 8 dimensional intergalactic planetary chess on god mode.

That sequence in late 3rd qtr or early 4th (IIRC?) where Mac threw 3 incompletions in a row, I think all fades, out of bounds, etc... was hideous.
Did you see JMD verbally assaulting Mac on the bench after that. It must have been Mac was missing reads and being careless with downs. He wasn't going through progressions, he was just guessing and chucking it. Notice he only threw about 2 or 3 passes after that.

How many weeks are we going to see a RB go down? Harris and Rham both went down yesterday, leaving Bolden the guy getting significant carries.

Bolden is holding this offense together while everyone else fumbles, gets injured, and commits penalties. Plus he plays on special teams, which I think he should stop doing till we get all our RB depth back.

One thing I have been noticing all season is that the receivers do not run clean rub routes. You could see it on the Gilmore interception. Both Meyers and Smith ran crossing routes that were designed to pick the defender. Looks like Meyers didn't run a clean route and ended up getting picked himself allowing Gilmore to be in far better position to get to the ball. Based on where Jones threw the ball to, it looks like Meyers should have ran a shallower route than he did.

This was a big problem in the first few weeks, but they have cleaned it up a bit in recent weeks. But this play shows that they still have work to do on it.

Yes. And for the first couple of games this year it actually seemed Darnold escaping Jete hell had turned his career around. But this week the ghosts of a past Jest disaster came back to haunt him.

If Stevenson is out play JJ Taylor.

Give Taylor are chance to fail. It's ridiculous. He has been given 16 carries all season and some folks have already determined that the guy is a bust.

Some RBs need a few more carries than 2 to get into the flow of the game.

I don’t think carrying more RBs is a good solution. We will have Taylor. Bolden, and Jakob next week, and hopefully either Harris or Rham is able to come back for depth although I’d not want to see either of them heavily utilized the first week back.

And/or maybe Smith needs to be deeper. Do you think the design was for Meyers to be shallower than Smith? This way there was no rub at all, and Meyers looks like he (instead of the defender) actually got slowed down by Smith.

You are probably right about the depth of Meyers' route, but either way it did backfire on them.

Both were mentioned in the Game Day Thread. And it was Robby Anderson of the Panthers who was yelling at Darnold after the interception in the End Zone.
I don't read the GDT. Looking for speculation on what was up.

I believe your speculation to be close to the target. Without a re-watch it looked that mac threw too soon without checking the field. One throw was (purposefully?) well out of bounds. A bad sequence for him in my opinion. I look for our All 22 gurus to evaluate that drive ending.
Brings back memories of TFB and BOB's yelling match albeit a VERY different situation.

Have to play to your strengths:

The pass interference call on Gilmore felt good and took some of the shine off his interception earlier.
