JC Jackson proves one thing?

He's proven more than that. Pay that man his money.

Like Thuney, I see Bill allowing Jackson to test FA and see what his value is.

I’m 50/50 on him returning. If he thinks he’s a #1 and want that money, it will be tough to re-sign him.

I’d be shocked if he doesn’t value or look at himself as a #1 corner.

Once he hits FA it's more about what other teams think.

Oh he will.

I bet his asking price will be $16M-$17M per year.

Still have to pay it. I don't want lowIQ idiots surrounding BB think they can patch a secondary without elite cornerbacks. Think of the crappy smurf CB era when they could never get a key 3rd down stop.

Coincidentally also with roommates from John Carroll deciding this was a good thing back then as well.

Someone will be willing to pay JC what he wants and we won't value him to that level and he will leave. I will be a bit gutted but as much as i like JC and think he is a good corner he isn't at the elite level that he will get paid at i believe.

Yeah, if we let JC get to FA, he's gone.

We won't be able to match what he gets offered and he'll go. People point to Andrews, McCourty and Hightower and examples of letting them test FA and retaining them, but Hightower only got offered more or less the same from the Steelers and McCourty said he weighed up leaving the North East, where he's from, where he went to college and where he's lived all his life and felt it wasn't worth the extra money to leave. JC Jackson is from Florida and would probably jump at the chance to head south for more money.

It'll basically be 2008 all over again with EH3 as our #1 CB

JC is not worth $50m in guarantees.

I think we'll have another year to decide.

The current tag is 15 million.

Like Thuney I think the team will bite the bullet, tag Jackson and try to 1) find a cheaper alternative 2) get another year's information.

People trying to get cute with key skill players. Sooner or later you actually do pay for talent. Even Bill does.

Personally I'm hoping that if the team looks like it can go to the playoffs again JC will play ball and we can negotiate a deal that's fair for both sides. Jackson is a #1CB, those don't grow on trees. And speaking personally I thinik JCJ has room to grow. He is only 26. He's the sort of guy Bill is probably more willing to take a risk on since he's young, aggressive defender who shows the right attitude.

I'm not too worried about losing JC. I think that as long as the team does well and he knows he'll be competing for rings here, Bill will be able to get something done.

JC Jackson:

  • leads league in INTs & passer rating against since entering NFL
  • second in PBUs this season
  • 7th out of 75 in passer rating against this season & 2nd out of 23 among CBs with atleast 80% snaps
  • The CB1 of a top 10 defense & 3rd in passer rating against
He isn’t a shutdown CB but he is a CB1. The standards for CB1 play are skewed here due to Talib, Revis & the DPOY Gilmore season. There may be only two shutdown CBs in the NFL in Ramsey & Alexander. I don’t know how the pats will upgrade from JC. I hope they re-sign him.

There will be teams that see Jackson as a legit top #1 CB and where he is an awesome #2 or decent #1 CB. He will likely get paid near the top of the CB scale. That will be too much for the Pats.

A thread about JC Jackson and you still beat the dead horse. What an A Hole.

Sad but true.

When you put it that way, he probably deserves top ten money. I don't think he's at the Law, Gilmore, or Revis level, but he's still a #1 corner (or a high-end #2) based purely on numbers. Tough to figure out his value. I don't miss the days of poor secondary play, but is he worth 17M+ per year? That's difficult to say right now. I suspect someone else will overpay him. I'd prefer he's here, but in the 12 - 15 range. That may not be realistic as the cap continues to go up, however.

Great post. I didn't realize he led in lowest passer rating. I think he's ready to make a tiny leap into elite CB1 territory. Would like to see him be a more physical tackler and contribute a bit more in the run game. But I'm all aboard paying JC Jackson 16m/year. Do it now, no need to wait half a year then stupidly lose him. This defense will suck without JC. With weak links in Godchaux, Bentley, Mills, if JC leaves this will be a crappy soft-zone defense like when Monty Beisel and Gary Guyton (and Smurf CBs) were here. No Thanks.

.

I see Jackson as an elite top corner. Maybe not top 3, but definitely top 10. He's the kind of guy a pay a lot of money to. He's that good, and we have no one else like him, nor are we going to land anyone like him in FA. He is NOT Malcolm Butler, this is a totally different story. If Gilmore wasn't old and on the downside of his career, I'd give him a bunch of money too. So, in my mind, Jackson gets Gilmore's money.
