Gasper: I think Bill is realizing his system doesn't work without high level QB play

lol, I love how people just believe any crap that gets reported. If the organization truly thought that, they would have gone for a cheaper top 15 QB other than Brady much sooner. Stop with this, it's narratives that people use to justify their stupidity about the last year and a half after Brady.

oh yeah, they just kept Brady for 20 years. Stop being so gullible.

What they thought of Brady (and I absolutely believe that's what they thought of him) has nothing to do with why he was kept here for 20 years.

Brady was already being paid like a cheaper top-15 QB anyway, so why look for another one?

Back to the title, it's silly, pretty much no NFL coach's system works if your QB isn't elite.....

The Patriots don't believe that. At least they didn't as of March 2020. They might now if Gasper is to be believed.

What about the 20 allegations. Sounds really risky....
If someone pulls the trigger on him before the deadline it will force the NFL's hand to do something with him. If no one does he sits there on the Texans roster and likely is suspended for at least most of not all next season. Word was the Texans are softening on the king's ransom they wanted.

I like Mac. What would you trade? I'd see if they were interested in: NKeal Harry, Isiah Wynn, Bentley, and/or Godchaux....

Watson has so many allegations I wouldn't trade any valuable picks or players.

And yet, he's the second-highest earning NFL player in history...only to Drew Brees.

That actually hurts your point.
"Brady was already being paid like a cheaper top-15 QB anyway, so why look for another one?"

Really?

I mean, maybe you'd like to offer me a pretzel that explains how a guy paid "like a cheaper top-15 QB" made more money than Manning (either), Rodgers, Favre and, you know, every other QB of his generation save one.

Brady was compensated more on average per year for his first 17 years than QB's like Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, he sure was paid less. Stop with that, the Pats stayed creative with his contract, but he wasn't undercompensated.

My husband and I were talking with a church member who needed encouragement earlier. And, while it is not my habit to have a phone during class, I saw my cousin's ID come up on my phone. He was just diagnosed with cancer and I thought I had to answer and give him my undivided attention. Could Ronnie be placed on the prayer list for healing from breast cancer? And also for a heart opened to the Lord? one.
I never said he was paid like a cheaper top 15. But saying he is second to Brees really does not help your point when you look at their careers and Brady's longevity. Point being Brady was drastically paid under his market value.

Because he played longer? If I pay you 10 dollars an hour and another guy 12 dollars and hour and you work 6 years longer than the other , who is going to make more money? Math folks.

No he wasnt. Brady played longer than Rodgers. Per year Rodgers made way more.

I found stats for the first 17 years and first 12 years of Rodgers career, Brady made more per year on average. And considering that QB's were paid a lot less in the first 5 years of Brady's career, it's telling. On that yearly average, Brady was more highly compensated.

I don’t know how Brady’s contracts compare to others. Contact extensions on top of existing deals, void years, deferred payments, etc make it complex. I always thought he took less but not to the degree some claim. Well paid but not where he could have been. And other elite QBs have absolutely dug in for something close to top dollar.

The BIG cap savings is about the cheap deals at skill positions and that Brady was able to often lead a top-3 offense while having his top 3 skill players cost around 15-20M while other superstars were getting a 30-40M budget for those guys. That’s how they could also field a great defense and depth.

Gasper could be right that it's all about BB and what his plans are. Is he interested in being here to shape this rebuild and groom Mac hopefully into a really good starting QB - even if it costs BB a realistic shot at Shula's record before he retires?

Or does he want to put the team into win now mode and make a real run at Shula's record. I think Bill cares a lot about history and legacy so if he feels that way it wouldn't surprise me.

But for that to happen you probably have to trade Mac for a win-now QB in return. The only feasible trade partner that could meet that need would be HOU for DW. His off field issues are an obvious red flag. I also don't know if DW would be ready to jump right in and make this team a SB contender right now. We still have problems with the OL, our LB other than Judon are meh, our secondary isn't as good, and we also have one of the worst rushing offenses in the league and IMO maybe the worst running game we've had since BB got here. Not to mention the odds that we will not get absolutely fleeced in such a deal are zero. So I don't know how they'd pull that off.

If we are being totally real, Watson is likely not going to jail as no criminal charges have really been filed. He at most will get a suspension for a year. He’s 26 and plays at an extremely high level and has succeeded with mediocre supporting casts. He’s someone that is great and you can longterm build around.

If morality is not factored in and it’s 100% about winning. Trading for him isn’t the worst move. Getting a good young QB like Mac plus few firsts is a good return for the Texans and next to nothing for an elite QB even with a suspension incoming.

The question is the morality aspect and whether the fans and organization can stomach it.

Show it.

If they believed that in 2020, they believe that now. A Cam Newton who was awful and a rookie QB five games into his career isn't going to change that take.
