Wickersham book discussion

I mean, its not upsetting, it just provides a likely somewhat accurate account of how humans behave in situations like this. None of it is hard to believe, none of it. I’ve always heard Bill is an ******* but I’m not sure I ever really got it until reading some of these anecdotes. But it doesn’t change my opinion about any of it.

Ok. Were they winning ? Yes. Cool. Only thing that matters.

« this type of stuff doesn’t work when the ONLY THING THAT HAS EVER MATTERED… »

winning. Love winning.
My point is, now they aren't. Is Bill still taking the same approach?

Wickersham noted at the beginning of the entire segment that Belichick was more ornery than usual that year.

And it’s also not new information — many local reporters noted that, and it’s been reported for almost a decade now that Belichick’s biggest regret from that season is he thinks he may have pushed them too far and that caused them to choke up at the end.

What *is* new that Wickersham reveals are the specific examples of it, that never came out before.

FYI the entire franchise has nosedived and Bill is still here.

What a load of sh.t. No NFL franchise has ever had the run of success that Belichick’s Patriots have had, and if you can’t deal with some rebuilding after the dynasty ends then just go f.cking root for Alabama.

They went from double digit wins for 20 years to 8-12 since the beginning of last season. That's a nose dive. Things are what they are whether you like them or not.

If you don’t agree with me, find another team to root for!!!

"With Julian Edelman out for the first four games of the season due to a suspension for performance enhancing steroids..."

Steroids? There's nothing out there that says that's what it was. Surprised the lawyers missed that one. Oops.

BB's rebuilding, if after 20 years of winning you cant put up with a couple years of rebuilding and a losing record I don't know what to tell you.

"I don't want to play for Bill anymore" he (Brady) told people close to him. That was new. Even on his worst days with Belichick, Brady was able to separate the coach's personality from his talent. He had told friends that he thought Belichick was a genius and he hoped never to play for anyone else. All that had now changed."

This quote has to be fabricated or embellished or from a 3rd hand source. Does not sound at all like something TB would say.

I don't know where I said I wasn't willing to put up with a few years of rebuilding. I quoted a post that said had if Bill left the franchise would nose dive. Webster dictionary has an alternate definition of nose dive: a sudden extreme drop. We went from 12-14 wins a year over the span of two decades to 7 wins and now 1-3. Seems like a sudden extreme drop in the number of wins to me.

I think give him til next year. Jones will be in year 2 and the guys they brought in a full year under the system then we can judge accordingly. But 1-3 still disappointing

It's very rare for NFL teams to continue to be successful once their dynasty ends. It's happened to GB, Pitt, SF, Dallas, and now possibly NE. It took GB and Pitt nearly 25 years to win the super bowl after their dynasty years.

I think what we hear from the locker room will tell us everything about whether it's time for a coaching change. If we hear that leaders like D-Mac or Slater no longer buy in to the program- then it will be time. I think Kraft will give Bill the opportunity to step aside gracefully like the Giants did with Coughlin. Bill can't be here forever and I don't think he's interested anyway in coaching this team as a perennial loser.

I think until that happens firing Bill now would be only compounding one historical mistake (letting Brady go) with another.

Its almost as if, something changed.....Winning record for 20 years....then 8-12 the next two years....hmmm...what changed...cant put my finger on it...

Because you are guessing it will only be a couple years. Its not like the pats never rebuilt. They didnt have the same tea in 2001 as they had in 2014, but in those rebuild times, they still won, now they are not. This could be just what it is. Thing that was always the saving grace, no matter what failed player was drafted in the second round or what receiver they pulled off the trash heap, we always had Brady that could pull double digit wins. Bad moves and bad draft meant 10-6 or 11-5 and a playoff loss. It didnt mean losing your first 3 home games

I think with Bill it comes down to a few things. 1) how much longer does he want to do it considering we are in a rebuild and far off from contending and 2) will Kraft want to continue paying Bill $20+M per year for mediocre results. If Kraft figures Bill is in his last few years and we aren’t contending why pay $20+M when you can pay someone else $5m

Yet half the board seems to think it is only a couple year process before we're right back in it. My post was simply stating the franchise has nose dived even with Bill still here. Some seem to be getting their panties in a bunch but it is what it is. I didn't proclaim we will never win a game. I just stated a simple observation but the homer patrol doesn't like numbers.
