Gilmore traded to Carolina

Couldn't we have just left him on the PUP and then at least got a comp pick for him? That way we get something for him and he doesn't go help another team.

No takers as we've discussed.

Doesn’t surprise me. He’s on the wrong side of 30, less than a year away from UFA, and he’s looking for $15M per. 2020 was the time to trade him. He still had some value then.

eh, as long as he doesn't go to Tampa, I can live with that...
lol, I think Tampa is a long shot, not because they wouldn't want him or need him, but because he's all about the money and some team(Packers, Cowboys perhaps) will over pay for him...

Can someone explain how this affects this year’s cap space? How would we not have had room for Gilmore? Just because we didn’t have room for him to play on a bigger extension that he wanted to sign before returning? But on his current deal, would we have had to release or restructure guys for Gilmore to play for us this year?

I see the Covid thread has slowed down again. The 20/20 hindsight thing would be an outstanding counter argument… except I was saying in 2020 that they should have traded him. Argued with Andy about it when it came to the debate about tanking the season. I also said it multiple times before this season in the lead-up to the draft. It’s understandable that you probably missed it since you don’t put in a whole lot of time up here anymore.
This is true, iirc.

Yeah, agree, last year was the time to trade him, now it's too late and coming off an injury and him wanting to be paid, couldn't even get a 6th for him.

I think they didnt expect the joker to play as well as he has. Doesnt matter how good your defense is if you can't score and get your qb hammered. I'll go with they are shifting resources to oline. Id expect a trade

We saw that Sherman is not the answer as he is garbage....makes sense from a need stand point, but again, according to Schefter, there are teams out there that have more cap room and will probably pay more and at this point Gilmore is all about getting paid.
Yeah I couldn't agree more The guy looks completely cooked. On top of that Mac was throwing towards him quite a bit which tells you something.

Maybe Tampa can't sign him. I am just an NBA fan and I am so used to guys getting cut then jumping on to super teams lol

If we net a decent right tackle or how about Jaylon Smith or a receiver who can get separation or Marlon Mack this is a win.

I'd be pissed if we signed Collins to a $7 million contract lol...but part of me thinks the pats were negotiating with him yesterday and the team realized there's not much cap space

They are going to have to give him a multiyear deal to get him. They are a zone coverage team. If he is going to a team to try to maximize his value to cash in in free agency, Tampa is a not good a spot for him to go if he wants to showcase his talent for a big deal next offseason. That is why I don't think he goes there.

The Cowboys have two starting caliber RTs FWIW

This would be lovely. At this point if they could get a sixth for him I would be happy given the alternative is getting nothing.

I'm not getting my hopes up though.

I caught myself, I almost screamed 'motherf*cker' in front of a class of 6th graders when I saw the news.
Aww, the kids would have loved it!

Breer is now saying it was actually NE asking him to take a further pay cut...
In other words, Gilmore's agent told Breer that NE was asking him to take a pay cut...

If he's willing to play on a one year deal alot of teams will be in play. Baltimore too maybe?
If he was willing to play on his current salary, he'd be playing here.

IMO he wants money other teams can't/won't be able to raise, and he'll use this year to be in great shape for the off season free agency market.

The last thing he wants to do is get injured playing for short money when his big payday is only a few months away.

Holy *** look at the dead money on the Lions (we have a lot too, but they're next level)
Trading Stafford caused years worth of QB1 money to accelerate onto this year's cap.

Tampa will find a way to get the money I think. All of their guys are 100% bought in and would restructure in a heart beat to get Gilly.
Two years from now it'll be Tampa that everyone says has the dumb GM.

“We’ll pay you $15M per year Steph - $500K this year, $2M next year and $42.5M in two years.”

Wut? Tampa plays a ton of man as they blitz all the time. He would be a perfect fit for them this year and show what he can do and then hit the FA market next year big.
