There was never a legit competition for the week 1 starter. The thought of Cam being our starter again this year is giving me acute dysthymia.
Has he looked better this preseason than last year? Yes.
Do I have confidence that against more complex regular season defensive schemes during the regular season that he will be able to make the pre-snap reads/adjustments and have the confidence/ability to go through his progressions and maintain consistent accuracy? Absof*ckinlutely not.
I fully expect him to make my blood pressure go up with frequent “What the f*ck was that?!” plays and I’m terrified that he is going to cause another COVID sh*t show with his refusal to get vaccinated. He still refuses to wear his mask/neck gator properly. Every time I see him on the sidelines with it sitting below his nose (which is 90% of the time) I want to come through the TV and smack him.
The competition is and has been Jones vs the development scale. It is his job as soon as he is ready. Cam stinks. If he plays it’s because Jones ready. There was no competition that was going to make him
Something he isnt.
The fear is belichick too conservative to pull the trigger now, because he should.
