Agreed but 3 years seems way too long. Remember when the JETEs resigned Revis? The guy was never an asset again. Great we let him go as the JETEs celebrated. Great move.
While I think Revis in his prime was better than Gilmore, there was already precedent for Revis being a bit of a loaf. He was only available as a FA because he got his big deal in Tampa and kind of stopped caring. I don’t have any reason to think Gilmore carries that same risk, he’s maintained a pretty consistent level of effort across his career as far as I’ve seen. His “fat deal” was with us and he only got better.

I think preseason playing time has to be different this year. Only 3 games plus the low number of padded practices equals less meaningful and quality reps and real game time action. A few NFL writers on twitter today were opining that games 1 and 2 would see more starter playing time than usual, with the 3rd being the dontgethurtshadowrostertryout game.

I'd like to see:

Game 1: Q1 Cam, Q2-3 Mac, Q4 Hoyer the Destroyer
Game 2: 1/2 Cam, 1/2 Mac +/-
Game 3: maybe a series or two from Mac/Cam but mostly hoyer

And he is coming off an injury and might not ever be the same. A 3 year deal at this time is a bit crazy.

Agree with many that Gilmore’s leverage has gone up a bit as the CB play has been meh. It would be nice if they could agree on a nice little 3 year deal… but I expect just a 1 year bump for this year only and let him test the market in ‘22… which will suck since JC is also a UFA so if both are potentially gone, they’ve got problems… guess we’ll see.

We have no idea what the DB's are working on, what the coaches are asking them to do. This is like when baseball pitchers are in spring training, working on specific pitches. They get lit up in games and everyone worries. The player: "I threw 28 sliders in a row, because I was working on location and grip. I'm not worried that they started to hit them. These games are for practice, they don't count."

A DB is working on changing up a technique for a couple of days, and it feels awkward, and he gives up some completions, and all of a sudden everyone is saying he sucks.

There's no way for any of us to make any of these judgments from what we know (and don't).

For Gilmore a 1 year extension, converting salary this year to bonus makes sense. I'd say add a voidable year but not really a need and the Pats don't do that.

It will be interesting to see how Adam goes into the HOF. As a Patriot or as a Colt?
Major league baseball hall of famers must pick a team cap to wear for their plaque.

No such thing for the NFL, where you go in as an individual and get a bust with no helmet or team identifier.

While I share the sentiment that Harry has so far been a total bust, I certainly hope that he can reverse it.

In the absolute, his ability to catch a pass might be below all of those guys you mentioned. But all assets/ skills are not interchangable. He is a strong-blocking big-bodied WR, unlike many/most of those other guys. That COULD BE a nice tool to have, if (and only if) he were to "get it". It is valuable to have some skills that you can plug into a game plan with vs. certain defenders, as opposed to treating all WRs as swiss army knives in your toolbox.

A blocking receiver is even worse value than a running QB.

And it makes zero sense to ever give NKeal snaps over 6 other better pass catchers due to mythical blocking especially when 2 pass catchers are also good TEs who can run block.

it's becoming easier and easier to spot the schills on the forum

My impression is BB looks for different things which are not "countable" in stats, stats for itself have also their own story, you can polish your stats if you want to impress and live for stats like Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees, whats important is:
- can you read the defense?
- can you adjust on the fly?
- do you make smart decision on the field?
- are you fast in taking this decisions?
- are you learning from your mistakes or are you repeating it all over again?

currently the only thing that is in Cams favour is (perhaps his leadership) and mainly his experience compared to the rookie Mac, everything else they are at least on same level or Mac is already ahead of Cam
You know what you get when you do the things you listed? Stats.

BB just has stats that he values more which may not be mainstream.

They did with Tom.

True, this would seem to be a good case to use it again but I don't think they need to. Pats are in good shape with the cap. and it's only going up from here for the next few years.

That's about 1/3 of the plays. That would mean he's got a major role, and is causing opposing defenses to pay attention.

A team wants to have as many good WR's rotate as possible. Opposing teams DB's have to dedicate study time to each WR they will face. The higher the number of WR's that play, the more thinned out that study time becomes. The thinner it is, the less effective it is. That leads to success for the offense.

We should all be rooting for Harry to make a leap in his capability this year.

The exaggerating and over stretching to pretend NKeal is going to make it, is going to break some legs.

In no scenario except injury does it make sense for NKeal to make it on the field (or roster at all) except as a filler body . No chance in hell it makes sense to not give it first to Henry, Smith, Meyers, Bourne middle of the field and no chance it makes sense to force it to Harry over Agholor or 4 other guys outside the hash marks.

Yeah and dig deeper you find Cam faced 1st team elite defense and Mac is playing against Ja'Juan f'ing Williams instead of Devin McCourty. And Every other position too
Mac is playing close to the same amount of 1st team reps as Cam, he's also getting additional 2nd team reps. The fact is that Mac throws a more catchable ball, with better anticipation and quicker reads for the most part. Cam is still occasionally skipping a ball into the dirt and is taking too long on reads when the defense starts to change things up.

Pre-season will tell us a lot, but by game 3 I think we'll all be able to tell Mac is the better passer. That doesn't mean he will start week 1, it just means that he will start at some point this season. I'm willing to bet sooner rather than later.

Except to you know, block on running plays or catch the ball on play action.

This is absolutely right. Problem is a rookie QB has absolutely zero precedence of doing anything in terms of rings. And I don't feel that wasting the last best year together of our big3 defensive vets makes sense on a lost rookie-QB season.

For all the QB talk, I’m still hoping for a VG defensive team + a VG running game / OL. I think both are possible as I feel there is skill & depth.
