DRAFT Welcome To The Patriots Ronnie Perkins

This could be easily one of the draft steels. Perkins has second rd value at a position where we needed someone. Great if he can Play the run on early downs. Our picks are really exciting
Loved the first 3 picks we had, true.

This one at 96 looks so good

Oklahoma defensive end Ronnie Perkins and running back Rhamondre Stevenson will return to action Saturday against Texas Tech according to News 9 Sports. The two have been suspended since the Peach Bowl national semifinal loss to LSU in last season's College Football Playoff due to failed drug tests.Oct 31, 2020

Interesting that Patriots selected BOTH....

He was heading towards a bit of a break out year before his season was cut short. Guys like that are a bit riskier, but late in the 3rd they are the kind of guys you don't tend to feel worried about picking. This might be my 2nd favorite pick of the draft when you add in value as a key part.

He's a solid player against both the run and pass rush.

I really hope Perkins grows into the nickname "Relentless Ronnie" or "Ronnie the Relentless"

Relentless players are really good for overall team play. Others see it and feel a need to compete and play at the same level. I hope he brings that energy to NE

I wish he were taller, and bigger, and longer...In the Football sense, that is...

Hmmm...Barmore & Perkins vs Boogie Basham & Bobby Brown & #122 (WR Tylan Wallace) & #139 (OT Dan Moore/DB Shaun Wade)...

Baham and Brown wouldn't have sucked as picks, but if Barmore is the guy who finished last season, he's light years ahead of any other DT in this draft, whereas Basham and Perkins look very close.

Don't be bitter.

You have to like what Perkins brings, but I imagine he fell because of concerns if his power game will translate considering he is not a bigger guy.

This pick looks better and better.

From this article, posted this morning by Jeff Howe:

Two weeks after unloading on the team in the meeting room, Riley brought Perkins to Texas Tech with the hope that he’d be eligible. Riley finally got word the night before the game at the team hotel, just in time to deliver the news in his meeting with the players.

“The team exploded,” Thibodeaux said. “They were so jacked up.”

Cain added, “The whole room just started screaming and hollering. The whole team was so happy that he was back.”

After the meeting, Perkins beelined to hug Thibodeaux. He could feel his redemption coming.

Despite playing just six games last season, Perkins had 5.5 sacks, nine hurries and 10.5 tackles for loss. Oklahoma had allowed an average of 33.5 points in four games (2-2 record) against FBS teams without Perkins. With him, they allowed 17.5 points per outing during a six-game winning streak.

“We were a good team, and we became a great team once he came back on the field,” Cain said. “He turned our defense totally around.”

Perkins then got the second-day draft grade that he coveted from the advisory board, so he declared early. The Athletic tabbed him as the 70th-best player in the draft class, while some other outlets viewed him as high as a top-50 prospect.

The Patriots got Perkins with the No. 96 pick.

Without a game being played it does seem like the Patriots did play the draft exceptionally well. And that's what can happen when you let the draft come to you. Of course we were blessed by talented players falling which might not happen any other year when the schedule isn't affected and proper scouting can happen. I love the potential of all our picks but Christian Barmore the best DT in the draft at 38, Ronnie Perkins at 96 and while we won't see him this coming season having Cameron McGrone join the LB core in 2022 is going to really boost our defence.

He reminds me of Geneo Grissom, same school, bottom of the same round, same toughness and athleticism.
Hopefully they get more out of Perkins.

Geneo was awful here...what?

He's a curious case. Almost always played with his hand on the ground, few times he was up I can't remember him dropping in coverage. Looking at him you want to stand him up, at least I do but again hes got little experience there and what tasks comes with it. I really like him though. He plays hard all the time and sets a physical presence, which Bill loves. Not a project but I could see him eased in.

We now have an overwhelming fleet of hybrids that rush and move around. We should be terrorizing QB's all next year. Tons of speed and attitude. HT, Uche, KVN, Wino, Judon, Perkins, Jennings, Wise, Barmore all can move around and get after the QB.

This could be fun
