Sam Darnold to Panthers

Bridgewater to the 9'ers coming next?
Actually, that might make some sense. Bridgewater's cap # if traded is, what, $12M in '21? And I believe he can be cut without any dead money in '22. Niners could trade for him for a 4th or something, trade Jimmy for a 2nd, and save over $10M in cap room. And Teddy would just be a fill-in til their rookie is ready anyway.

Hey, this opens the door for TB to the Pats...

Now you can stop pretending Darnit was worth the #3 pick in the draft and build up false hope da Jete won't ruin whomever this year's darling is.
I mean a 2nd, 4th, and 6th for a QB on the last cheap year of his contract is pretty darn good value.

That has to equate to early 1st round value if the guy had 4 cheap years (like a rookie would).

Basically his value has barely budged.

So three years of lost time has no value for you?

Oh yeah, forgot that you've had nothing since 1969 so in that sense three years is nothing.

Bridgewater is now in the same position as Garoppolo, if the rumors about picking up Darnold's option are true.

Both will have to rework their contracts to be on "their" team, at this point.

I think Carolina would eat a $10M dead money hit by trading him, the receiving team only needs around $12M-ish in space to absorb Bridgewater. Not all that bad if they really like him. His 2022 cap number is $26M but they can cut him next year for zero dead money.

Have to wonder about what precedent it sets for a Garoppolo trade. Yes Jimmy is better than Darnold but he's got injury issues. He's a good deal older than Darnold and is way more expensive ($50M+ for next two years vs. $22M for next two years). While Jimmy SHOULD cost more in a trade, the 1st round pick demand looks silly when compared to this.

If Denver trades for Bridgewater... not only does it make it easier to draft a QB with fewer competitors, it also makes it easier to scoff at SF's demand of a 1st for Garoppolo.
Why? Bridgewater's not likely to be looked at as a long term solution in Denver.

Above it was asked "Isn't it odd CAR is into Darnold more than QB4/5"?

Now we should ask "Isn't it odd that CAR is into Darnold more than Teddy"?

I doubt it too, but if Denver picks up Bridgewater, I can't see them also being interested in Jimmy. For a drafted QB, maybe, but it does seem to be less likely. If you only thought of Bridgewater as a "bridge" (no pun intended) you may as well just use Lock for that purpose.

You know who might have just entered the JAG arena? The NYJ.

Yes, considering the draft capital CAR is trading for Darnold is next year's draft which devalues it even further.

Hm, maybe. But as a bridge or no? No way they'd move the #2 overall for him, but maybe next year's 1st. I can see a situation where they trade out of #2 for a bounty and then take Jimmy.

I suppose I could also see them taking Jimmy in a move that lets SF bounce up 1 spot. SF sends Garoppolo, NYJ goes down 1 slot and takes someone like Lance?

And another QB domino fell....

Now as it stands....the Pats are gonna do one of three things, IMO:

a.) Jump all the way up to #4 or #8 for Lance/Fields.

b.) Stay pat and hope on of the 5 QB's falls to #15...if not...take BPA (Parsons?).

c.) Trade down and and pick up a 2nd as well as a 2022 first round pick. Then pounce on a 2nd tier QB in round 2.

Right now I think my desires are in this order: Lance, Fields, Mills, Monds, Trask, and then Newman.

Today was a good day for the pats.

The consensus is growing that the 49ers are drafting the most pro ready QB in the draft in Mac Jones.

Panthers trade for Darnold:

I’d day the odds the pats are either getting Jimmy G & a top prospect or one of the 5 first round QBs are decent.

Trade Stidham to DEN & we’re golden!
