Hi all.

Brady vs. Bill seems to be a controversial topic here. Some insist it is a "thing," while others say it shouldn't even be discussed because nobody is even looking at things that way.

As an out-of-towner non-Pats fan, I can say that it definitely is a thing. I and many others have kept an eye on the developments of both Brady and the Pats this year, as it has always been known that there has been an unspoken "rivalry" between those two gentlemen. People have always wondered who was really responsible for the two-decade string of success the Pats have had. And I think this season we have been given the answer. Each's track record without the other seems to speak for itself. Many insist that Bill is a genius, but it is probably much easier to look like a genius when you have the all time GOAT holding down the most important position in sports for 20 years.

All I can do at this point is acknowledge Brady is the man. 10 Super Bowl appearances and counting. Mind blowing!

It's not controversial.

We have an entitled fan base which is mad at Bill for starting a rebuild job because they can't handle going 7-9 when it was this very kind of shrewdness which built the dynasty and benched Bledsoe in the first place

All due respect, but you cannot judge this after one season. And if Brady stayed, I bet the storyline would be the media asking if it was time for Brady to start to think about calling it a career.

Brady went to a near perfect situation. He has three WRs that could be #1 WRs on a lot of teams with one of them probably being a top 5 WR when healthy. I am not saying this to take anything way from Brady, but I am saying he has a lot of talent around him which he wouldn't have if he stayed.

Belichick, on the other hand, had no real QB and no WRs and no real LB. If you want to blame that on Belichick the GM that is fair, but they are in a rebuilding year. We need to see what Belichick builds over the next few years post Brady before we can even start to make any comparisons.

I love Robert Weathers. He understands.

It's always the transcendent player at the most critical position. Still, does not mean Bill is not the GOAT HC but he is a coach not a player.

I was happy to see the Bucs give Brady so much appreciation especially at the ceremony where they handed him the trophy first after the owner. It was pretty special. A home Super Bowl. Unreal.

Great QB > great coach. Always.

Lots of great QBs take inferior coaches to SBs (Peyton Manning- Jim Caldwell and Rodgers-McCarthy comes to mind). Great coaches with an inferior QB and team may be competitive (which the Pats were most of the time) but they aren't going anywhere.

Joe Gibbs disagrees with this post. :)

This thread will get moved when Bill takes another beating.

Good point, but that 91 Redskins defense was one of the best of all time. Rypien didn't do it by himself.

Those « great QBs » you speak of only won one SB per franchise (IND-DEN-GB)... with BB they’d at LEAST won twice. BB was the difference between a win or two and six, IMO.

i'll C&P my previous post:

perspective DOES matter

football is the ultimate team sport

if it weren't for Kraft, this team was gone....he brought in BB, he opened the purse strings, he gave BB the freedom to make this all happen

BB built the staff, he built the teams, he set the tone

Brady came in with a chip on his shoulder, bought into the system BB was putting in place, and then made himself into the QB we've watched for 20 years (or 5, depending on when you started)

none of this happens without them......none of this happens without Dante Scarnechia, none of this happens without Richard Seymour, or Ty Law, or Wes Welker, or Randy Moss.....I could go on and on

We've witnessed unprecedented greatness for 20 years......success unparalleled in this league, let alone in the salary cap era

this was all about the perfect storm......were there some more important than others? sure.....and one could argue BB & Tom Brady are the two most important pieces, and I'd agree with that......but one cannot discount the man that built it, one cannot discount the one that did so many special things, and one cannot discount the "smaller" pieces along the way....be they Gronk or Troy Brown (ok, he was huge) or Matthew Slater or a host of other players that here over this time

to boil it down to "BB vs TB12" is to do this franchise, the run they went on, and the very essence of the game, a disservice......and displays a gross misunderstanding of what some of us have been watching since the beginning (and long before)

to me none of this happens without Mosi Tatupu or Steve Grogan.......but ymmv

Sure. I also think it was easier back in the day for head coaches with average QBs because defenses could play a lot more aggressively before they changed the rules in favor of the offense.

I still think a great coach can win a Super Bowl without a great QB, but I don't think you can win more than one without a great QB. Eli and the Giants may be the last team to win multiple Super Bowls with the same QB without that QB being a top tier QB. The league has just become too offensive centric which means too QB centric to not have a great QB to be consistently a Super Bowl contender.

belichick is the GOAT of coaching. Brady is the GOAT of the sports.

put those 2 together we have the GOAT of the GOAT.

honestly, the only way to have a chance to win for more than a 3 year window is to get a great young QB and then be able to build around them....building a team is now really a 3-4 year window, max, with the salary cap, unless you have that young, cheap QB, get some success, and then hope they want to keep winning

makes what the Pats were able to pull off for 18 years all the more remarkable.......salary cup is a motha

Just like the Michael Jordan vs Phil Jackson debate was decided when Jordan was struggling in Washington while Jackson was hanging banners in LA. It was obvious that Jordan was just a system player and had been vastly overrated as he was nothing w/o Jackson.

Yep. Pats can take their first big step forward on the path back in 2021. Hopefully.
