Why the hell did we not try harder to keep TB12?

I’ve been posting about the Patriots since Chatham was still playing.

So you broke the no cell phone on the sideline rule?

I hate that this forum (and maybe it's my own fault) has made me resent Brady the way some people just absolutely need to shred BB and the Pats for letting him go.

It was the end of the run. He can't stay here another 5-6 years waiting for a rebuild. We had one single bad year so far in a cap strapped and COVID-impacted season. Get over it already

The whole NFL system is set up to prevent dynasties from happening. Worst teams draft first, cap space, scheduling etc etc. A ten year run is incredible. A twenty year run is unbelievable. A bad couple of years to reset is not too much to ask for.

I thought it was a discussion about the state of the Patriot's salary cap when Tom was looking for a new contract.

But apparently Bill Belichick was on the grassy knoll in Dallas that day, jumped out of a plane under the pseudonym DB Cooper and was responsible for the Saving's & Loan scandal.

People really hate this guy, which is odd considering he brought more Super Bowl rings than anyone since Chuck Noll... hell, he even drafted Tom Brady... but apparently that wasn't enough.
Yeah, I don't get it...probably never will, but when he's gone, I'm sure he'll be missed. I always think back to the Super Bowl against Seattle....the interception by Butler....it was because of the attention to detail and the fact that they practiced that play multiple times in practice, otherwise, it's a TD and game over....You think any other coach has that attention to detail...hmmmm...nope!!

Super bowl 53 vs the Rams.

BB yells , "intercept it" right when Goff releases the ball. I've always been curious if that was something they had worked on as well.

Oh really? The most wealthy couple on the planet built a house in 2015 and are expected to be psychics who can predict the relationship with BB would go sour 3 years later? I know Tom is the GOAT, but a psychic too?
Huh?

Says the guy who ignored the cap portion or my previous post.
You said if BB signed Tom to a deal in 2020 his cap hit would be 6 million... Lol!!!

I'd sooner ask a chimp for help placing a satellite in orbit than ask you to explain the cap again.

If Brady was here in 2020 the dead money would have been $6 mill and $6 mill in 2021. They would have still had to pay him. Not sure why you're confused here.

Dead money is for players not on the roster, if Tom was here the term "dead money" wouldn't exist... again, clueless.

So then what would you call the $6 million if Brady was here? Are you just arguing semantics now Matt?

Tom was injured, he wasn't practicing after the Chiefs game where he had his arm in a sling and was dealing with a foot injury as well. This isn't opinion like "he looked fine to me."
He may have been injured, but he was throwing the ball fine. Stop making it about it him.
So you won't accept the very simple challenge to post your "can't miss" draft picks prior to the draft... hmm, wonder why that is?
I have no problem making my picks...when it's draft time. In fact, maybe there should be a thread asking "Can you draft better than BB?" Then we can compare picks later on and see who on this board can pick ONE Pro Bowler/ALL Pro who's not a punter or a punt returner before BB does. Shouldn't be that hard to do.
Bill has always been terrible at his job according to you Negative Nancys... but it's only caught up to him now... 20 years later lololol!
Well, his record is back to under .500 without Tom and he's not coming back this time. Let's see what Bill can do.

If Tom were signed they could take the 13.5 in cap owed and split it up over the remainder of the new deal. Using Tampa's two year deal as an example, they could split it into two payments of 6.75 million per year...

Only it wouldn't remain 6.75 because that doesn't account for the new money on the contract he just signed, in this case 50 million guaranteed.

Again, over two years that would be 31.75 million for 2020 and 31.75 million for 2021. That equals 13.5 million already owed plus the 50 million you just paid him... for a team that had one million dollars in cap space when Tom was looking for his new deal.

Why don't you stick to talking about what you know... "everything Patriots sucks, they have no talent, BB is a loser, Wozzy is Chatham because I can't argue any of his math."

You're wrong buddy. We were talking about this early last offseason. If Brady didn't extend by a certain date, the Pats got hit with a $6.75M in dead money, even he re-signed.

I have no doubt all your draft picks will be players projected to be taken high in the first round, then afterwards you'll crow loudly about how easy it is to be better than Bill. lol!

Insert the sound of crickets chirping here

New England gave Brady a $20.25 million bonus in 2019, and the void years allowed the cap hits to be spread out. In 2019, that bonus cost $5.5 million in cap dollars. Then, in 2020 and 2021, it would cost the Patriots $6.75 million each year unless he didn’t extend his contract before the start of the 2020 league year. If he decided to sign elsewhere, re-sign after the league year began, or quit the sport altogether, the $6.75 million cap hit from 2021 would accelerate to 2020.

So basically if he was here in 2020 that $13.75 mill would be half. Which is what I have said over and over.

No point going any further, it's not going to go anywhere. I just posted this and he's in denial.
