Jerod Mayo to interview for Eagles head Coach position

Would be sad to lose him, he's been an outstanding Patriot as both a player, captain and now coach.

He doesn't get enough credit for his play in this defense and people seem to overlook his contributions

He's an intriguing candidate. Players respect him, and he was a leader as s player and a true leader as a coach, and he obviously has the defensive coaching chops, but only knows the offense through a defensive lense.

Ideally, he would get some more seasoning as a coach and some exposure to the offensive side of the ball, but sometimes you can't wait on the ideal time to pick a raw but talented coaching candidate as other teams might pounce.

Depending on how he interviews I'd be willing to give him a chance to turn around a young dysfunctional team.

I would've guessed he'd need another decade of coaching experience before becoming a head coach. His first year was 2019.

It’s interesting. Although I thought the same thing about Flores. I thought he was absolutely a difference maker in terms of the improved play but wondered if he would be in over his head as a head coach. But one thing I didn’t put enough stock in is that the big key is really how guys respond to a certain personality. You can have an experienced guy but if the players don’t believe in them, it doesn’t matter. If you have a guy who can get everyone on the same page and surrounds themselves with good people, that’s often the difference. Definitely has me feeling like this has a shot of happening for him.

Thats a tough situation to inherit, i have no idea what id do with wentz and that contract tbh.

He may very well be head coaching material but a few years away. This is probably a practice run, so that when he's ready for the job, he's ready for the interview process. Smart move.

My daughter just got an invite from a headhunter to apply to a job that she thinks she's underqualified for. So she hesitated. Advice from her Dad: just do it for the experience! Plus, you might be wrong; let them find out who you are and what you can do, and if they want to take you on and help you develop the skills and knowledge you don't have yet, great! Just be abundantly transparent about all that.

Hard to believe he's ready right now, but I also figured he would end up in this position eventually.
I think he is doing the interview for experience. In saying that, that is exactly what I said about Flores.

never... im actually surprised we havent heard Jeff Fishers name this time round...
I'll never forget the press conference where he talked about two players that hadn't been with the team for two years. That was a serious indictment on him as a head coach...absolutely awful.

I assume the Rooney Rule is in play. Having said that, Mayo has always been viewed as an up and comer with high intelligence. I think his inexperience will be a drawback. I think it's just a matter of time before he's a head coach.

They’ve already interviewed Deuce Staley and Saleh I believe
