Please let the Patriots lose

So with a win today what pick are we looking at?

In BB we trust.

I think it was 14 or 15 with a win.
I think the Patriots were 14 before this week. With the win now to stay at 14 wins by both the 49ers (against Seattle) and Las Vegas (against Denver) is needed. In terms of potentially missing out on moving up, of the teams ahead of them that have already played, Dallas is about to lose (so nothing lost in terms of draft position there) while Minnesota won (again nothing lost since they were ahead to begin with). So even with a loss, the Patriots would have only gained draft position if either a) the Chargers win against KC and/or b) Denver beats Las Vegas. The win today affected depending on the remaining games to be played draft position between 12-16.

Thank you for breaking that down
Very insightful.

Like 15 or 16
Please don't use logic on here and allow the sky is falling crowd to enjoy themselves...
*Looks for ignore thread option*

*Finds it, upper right corner*

*Clicks it*
I gotta check as I don't think I've ever put anybody on ignore, it's been tempting many times...

One correction on the above, with a loss today the Patriots would have moved up 1 spot for sure because of Minnesota's win, so depending on the remaining games to be played the win today potentially affected draft positions 11-16.

Anywhere from 15-20...totally stupid for the pats to win this game
I wanted them to lose but they have to be professional and try their best. We can root for them to tank, they can't actually do it. It was disappointing for fans but not stupid for the players.

Agree. Tanking is what loser organizations (like the Colts) do. It's shameful. That is not the kind of culture I want the Pats to have. You play to win the game. That being said, of course I wanted the Pats to lose. It's what is best for this long term future of this team. I think there are a lot of fans, because of the two decades of dominance, and because the GOAT and a dominant defense carried this team and it's terrible offense to the playoffs last year, who just have not wrapped their head around how dire the situation is. This team has the worst QB, WR, and TE group in the league and plenty of issues on defense. This is not a rebuild that is going to happen in a year or two. We desperately need an infusion of talent at many positions. The best chance to do that, without throwing money around and creating a cap situation, is to draft high in the draft.
This was a two or three win team talentwise that managed to win seven games. Very impressive feat that speaks volumes about Bill and the culture he;s built. But it also completely screwed us for next year's draft.

Halfway through last season the Dolphins looked like one of the worst teams of all time. Fast forward a year and they were a playoff contender. The Patriots played a ton of young players this year and like the Dolphins they have a ton of cap space. Getting back in contention is not easy but I don't buy that it is necessarily a multi-year situation. There are a multitude of teams well over the cap and there should be more veteran talent available than usual. The Pats obviously need to land a QB but if they solve that issue there is no reason they cannot make substantial improvement quickly.

Hope you fools who wanted the Patsies to "win" like your lousier draft position...

Thank you
There was zero value in winning once we were out of the playoffs.
Being Strategic sometimes involves losing now to help win down the road.
I really believed BB out of anyone would understand and act as well as embrace that.
I understand the human element side of that coin is that you are looking men in the eyes who gave you everything they had and you are saying lay down and die.
It sucks but from the strategic position would of been the right and wise move.

They would have pick 12 if they lost instead of 15 so eh.

The way things look right now chances are good they’ll have a top 10 pick next season and maybe even top 5 so it’s all right - there will be talent to be had in the 2022 draft if Bill wants to choose some.

Most of the draftniks are saying the 2022 draft will be weak.

looks like qb Lawrence, qb fields, qb lance, qb Wilson, te Pitt’s, wr chase, wr smith, wr waddle, ot Sewell, cb/fs surtain, cb Farley de paye and lb parsons be off the board by 15.

that is 13 players. Whoever we pick at 15, will have about the same draft grade as a guy in the 20’s.

should bb trade down to around number 20 and grab wr Marshall of LSU, or wr Moore of Purdue or a qb like jones or trask? Having an extra third round pick would help!

A lot of "ifs". But if the pats can find a competent QB, not top 15, just competent, and Edleman and Harris can give us 16 (or is it 17 next year?) regular season games and they add a couple of threats to the WR corp or TE group and they don't shed both Jackson and Gilmore I think this could be a double digit win team next year.

I think this was their one shot to get into that top three to draft a franchise QB. I don't think you are going to see a top ten pick anytime soon. This team wont be a legit contender next year, but I don't see them being top ten draft pick type bad.
