Official Post Game Thread- Rams beat the Pats

If belichick doesn’t realize that newton is pathetic and should never play another down for this team, it might be time for him to retire.

Or a victim of our own success. We maximized our chances the past few seasons at the expense of this season. It paid off. We won the SB 3 times in the past six years including 2018/19. There are 32 teams in the league. On average, it should take a century to accomplish what we did in the past half dozen years. Most teams can’t contend for more than a few consecutive years. We just had twenty. And now we are loaded with cap space.
Ironically the big problem wasn't even that. Team was fine from 14-17. You know where we screwed up? When we traded Cooks and tried to replace him with Matthews and he got injured and we freaked out. Then the last few years have just been WR craziness in the off season of guys coming in and out and just a circus of trying to find something that worked. That put us in a bad way.

Wouldn’t trade that plan for anything and all the cap room comes back next year.

You’ll see that abdomen injury a lot this week with Stidham getting 1st team reps all week.

McVay completely outcoached Bill tonight on both sides. His hurry up on third downs was brilliant.

If you draft a QB first round you are thinking longterm not short term. You are playing for a 15 year experience, not a one year experience. It would be irresponsible to ruin their development and rush them out into a bad situation if you felt they would benefit from development time. Even if that means putting up with Cam or Brissett who both are negligible right now (Cam is probably a better runner so I'm probably not even being fair) and maybe not going all out next season.

It sucks to say, but this isn't a team that ONLY has a QB problem and this we might not even solve that problem right away and you might at the very least have a cheap vet that knows the system, has the respect of the lockerroom and can make some plays in the run department while we figure out how to proceed at that position. Maybe we will get lucky and some talent will run to us in FA. But Rivers didn't. Idk why Stafford would come here when some win now team that had a better season will be out there. Maybe something crazy happens and Dak is on the market... is there any chance in hell Bill pays him 40 million a year? Probably not.

So it's likely we draft and it's likely it makes sense to have a vet on the roster and yes probably starting until the new QB is ready.

I know people want to think there's some out of the box ready to go answer just waiting for us, that's just probably not the case. QB purgatory is a thing and we are in it.

This isn't 1990 anymore. Put your Vanilla Ice and New Kids on the block posters away. QB's are better prepared to be productive in their first year.

Harris has a back injury - whatever that means.

Not much to say after this game. We were outplayed by a better team. We didn't play well at all and got crushed. The Rams are a talented team and they really handed it to us. Both lines were dominated. Not much else to say.

Some bright spots:

Gunner
Bailey
That's pretty much it.

Let's discuss
Well it’s technically the end of a very frustrating season. I think BB’s insistence on proceeding with Newton as his QB after seeing that time and time again, Cam can rarely if ever make the throws necessary (even short slants are inaccurate) to allow the offense to compete. The opposing defenses knowing that he can not beat them through the air and primarily then have to just shut down the run and it’s pretty simple to beat this team. And the defense was maddeningly inconsistent this year. Could not stop the run.... safety and CB very erratic and honestly Jason Mccourty should have retired 2 years ago...snd his brother is not far behind. Gilmore tremendously underwhelmed this season....best of luck to him next year. Bentley is awful time to cut bait....Anyways this season for all intents and purposes is over....time to look to rebuilding next year and to FA and draft. Hopefully BB stubbornness won’t get in his way of cutting Newton at end of year....and try to trade Stidham to a team where he gets a chance to play.....Hopefully draft our future QB in this years draft

Yeah at this point we might as well start Stidham so we can lose out and get a decent draft pick
Don’t worry chief this team will do plenty of losing rest of the way with Sham in there!

Yeah right, if you want to lose you definitely play scam.

We’ve seen a small sample size. Bill has seen a large one. I’ll take his word for it
That has nothing to do with how Stidham will perform long term. BB's small short term decision has nothing to do with Stidham over the long term. You can take his decision that Stidham is not ready now, but that may not reflect on the long term decision.

I haven’t missed a Pats game for many years but I won’t watch another game this year as long as Cam is the starter. He should have been pulled after the pick 6.

I get that the best shot you had this year we to try to win without a qb, so play the RB masquerading as a QB but that ship has sailed
We would be better playing both Harris and Michel and running a wild cat.

We could get Kyle trask or mac jones considering our draft position , if we get lucky even wilson .. i think they are decent bets.. else get Kyle Pitts in the first round to get a x factor TE.

Nah he brought a qb. Bb didn’t.

I agree. It would be more fun to watch at least. Bill told us at the beginning of the season that he was punting on this season because of the cap. Pretty sad.
