Post Game Thread- Bills beat the Pats

Just because you say something is so doesn’t make it so. Especially if you have no examples of a team with a culture like New England has doing it in a down year.

There is no damage done to the culture. That is an argument that has zero basis in reality. You either believe BB is the GOAT or you don’t. If you do, there’s zero logical way you can believe he will “lose the culture.” If you don’t, then that’s another discussion. So which one is it?
He is the GOAT because his mentality is that he would never consider such s as n idea.
If he acts totally opposite of who he is, of course the culture is destroyed.
When do your job and no days off becomes lose on purpose so we can bank the future of the team in a draft pick he should just retire.

Bull. He has that credibility because of the way he approaches the game. He loses it in a second when he contradicts everything he beloved in to lose on purpose.

He has that credibility because of 8 rings. If he trades of assets for picks, as he always has, he not going to fall into a Chuck Pagano category. Not a chance.

The good news: the Pats have...

A really good and young and deep OL - even if they trade Thuney. (Onwenu is a stud and Froholdt can play.)
A great secondary core even if they trade Gilmore and lose the McCourtys to retirement.
Some good young DL
A deep and decent backfield.

They are competitive and have been in games they could have, or should have, won with 3 playoff teams in those 5 losses.

They need a good TE, a big guy to center the DL, Jennings and/or Uche to grow a lot this year (plus Hightower), and a game changing WR - Harry will be a good WR, but not a #1. Meyers is a good #3. Maybe Gunner is the slot future, I don't know.

My point is, they get a good QB and he won't get killed like Luck did.

They're really not that far away. And anyone blaming BB for this season is out of their minds (unless it's Brady-related, which is an entirely different post). They had no money in FA, then got money when top players opted out. They've got a lot of core talent, but no top-end talent, but they'll have money and high picks.

Tank for Trevor? Wouldn't bother me a bit. They're not the Bengals or the Colts who got Luck. They've got a lot of GOOD talent with a few pieces missing.

Were it me right now, I'd see what's worth trading - Edelman to the Bucs? Thuney? Gilmore? (It'd have to be a lot for me to trade Gilmore.)

Zero evidence Harry is a "good" receiver. And why Meyer only a #3. He's the best receiver on this entire roster

.

The pats are in shambles, and they still almost pulled it out in Buffalo .... just sayin

Making a trade and tanking are 2 different things.
people are suggesting losing all 9 games on purpose when they are easily going enough to win more than half of them. People are saying lay down and lost to the jets twice on purpose.
the players on this team will despise belichick if he does that and he will lose every ounce of respect he has, because he will be doing the exact thing that is the opposite of his we win that respect.

Call me crazy, but these close losses are tough for me...I never want to lose, but if we are going to, I'd rather they be blow outs...these close ones really affect me for hours

yeah well what do you expect? We are devoid of talent on O besides Cam and Harris

I think most people in the Patriots organization are a bit more matured than that.
No. They are where they are because they value competing. Losing on purpose destroys that. Bad teams that fight to the end get better. Bad teams that give up don’t

It’s mind boggling to think that some people here think BB would be fired if they went 2-14. What in the world are you guys thinking?

Flores sure righted the ship there in a hurry. Impressed
Amazing how you can quickly rebuild a team with draft stock, and a lot of cap room put together with good coaching.

Doing what's best for the team has always been his montra. That's not restricted to one season.

In regards to the “tanking” talk, I think both sides of the argument have some merit. I don’t think that the team itself is necessarily permanently damaged if they have a 3-13 type season, but it comes down to how it happens. If the team plays hard every week and simply come up short despite all their best efforts, they’d probably be fine next year. But if it was clear they were not trying to win I think that hurts Belichick’s image and his ability to get guys to buy into his system. If he isn’t “doing his job” why should they put all their heart into doing theirs? Etc. At this time I think Bill is doing a very good job as far as maintaining the competitiveness, but it’ll definitely be a challenge to keep that up if they keep losing. Personally I think they are too good to go 3-13 without more injuries, a 6-10 type finish feels more likely right now. That probably still gets you a top 10-12 pick.

In addition to NT, TE and WR, we also need help at LB and QB. It is rapidly moving toward a "play the rookies and rebuild" year. With the way Harris is playing at RB, I would trade Michel (probably won't get much more than a mid-round draft choice). The rebuild may be a multi-year affair. Hope BB uses his upcoming high draft choices wisely.

What’s best for the team isn’t going out on a football field to lose on purpose.
players careers are on the line. Do your job, no days off, aren’t platitudes. They are a way of life. Every player in this team should be working to improve, to win their battles, to win games. That’s what you build on, not draft position.

Nobody is telling Kraft to order Bill to do it. WTF are you talking about? This would be a decision that Bill would have to come to on his own. It would start with becoming sellers at the trade deadline instead of buyers. Arguing that Bill would be fired is a non-starter. It just isn’t going to happen

Sure it does.
Then it seems we are not on the same page with this. Tanking to me is not “selling”- it is losing games on purpose or deliberately not putting your team in the best position to win in order to improve your draft position. The 2011 Colts didn’t do it, no team does it it doesn’t happen.

And yes I believe Bill is gone if they go 2-14 and I can’t argue against it. This roster has no business losing 14 games.

Lol at people blaming cam when we have given him the WORST group of WRs and TEs in nfl history!

FIRE our offensive scouts

If people in the organization can’t see the bigger, long term picture on why young guys are being placed on the field even though they give you a bigger chance of losing, or trading away key aging veterans to get yourself more draft capital, then they are thinking too small and need to go.

Well you and I both know BB would never do that. He'll compete in each game. He'll want to win each game. That's a given. BB would be more thrilled winning a big game with a bunch of No Names than moving up in the draft a couple of spots.

But if he decides to trade Thuney or Gilmore for picks or assets or cap space he won't lose the locker room.

I am not a huge college football guy so I have no idea about the QBs in play for next year but I have seen so many "can't miss" QB's in the past 10 years absolutely blow that I have a hard time rooting for my team to lose just to slightly increase their chances of getting a shot at one of them. Titans "tank" for Mariotta - oops, Jags for Bortles - try again, Redkins get RG3 then Haskins - guess not, Jets grab Sanchez then Darnold - maybe 3rd time is a charm? The great class from a few year ago with Mayfield, Darnold, Allen and Rosen seems a lot less inspiring right now. If they do end up with a top 5 pick and whoever they picks turns into a top QB then it will be worth it - just not sure the likelihood of it.

Agree but tanking doesn’t mean losing, it means losing on purpose which it sounds like you do not agree with.
