Reason why BB so bad at drafting WRs

Drafting is one part of it. But player development is the biggest part of it and our player development on offense (outside of o line and qb) has been substandard!

I see two huge factors:

1.) coaching turnover.
2.) not drafting players that fit the scheme.

Who drafted Edelman? Must have been Brady.

Interesting how this article was done today and we're talking about this exact thing:

It also explains why Sanu failed here.. He didn't buy into the system..

If Sanu's correct that the system is too difficult then there should be WRs who left here and thrived in another system.

Sanu sounds like a whiner who's trying to blame the Pats for his ankle injury and the fact that he came back too early.

Upstarter's numbers ARE accurate. Your claim that you've debunked anything is laughable. The list shows that the Steelers use more draft capital than the Patriots on Draft picks. Including Claypool, the Steelers have used 8 picks in the top 3 rounds on WR. During that same time, Patriots have used 2.
The biggest Homer has come to the rescue. Unfortunately, you dont know what the hell youre BSing about as usual.

Argument- The Steelers spend more draft picks on WRs than NE and are therefore more successful. Its all about the quaintly of picks used and not the individual selection itself. The NE tally sheet looks bad, but wouldnt if they only drafted more WRs like Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is not really any better than NE at drafting WRs. Its a mirage.

Facts are that since 2000 Pittsburgh has drafted a total of 23 WRs and NE has drafted 16 WRs. 7 WRs more than NE in 20 years. That amounts to the Steelers spending 30% more draft capital on the WR position. 3 of the additional Pittsburgh picks were spent in rounds 4 - 6.

1 more pick than NE pick in round 4
0 in round 5
2 more in round 6

PITTSBURGH

1 Burress, Holmes
2 Claypool, JuJu, Washington, Sweed, Randel El.
3 Wallace, Reid, Wheaton, Sanders, Coates, Johnson. Wheaton was considered a BUST in Pitt with a combined 1300 yards and 7 TDs over 32 games. Harry would be on his way to the Pats HOF with those numbers.

Thus far Pitt has hit on 8 players out of 13 picks for a 67% success rate, but make no mistake, its not because of knowing who to draft.

4 Gibson, Farmer, Bryant. 0 HITS, but Bryant was considered BUST with 1300 yards and 14TDs his first 2 seasons.
5 N/A
6 Brown, Mays, Brown. 1 HIT
7 Taylor, Baker, Ayers, Clemons. 0 HITS

Pitt hit on 1 WR out of 10 selections for a 10% success rate.

Summary Pitt hit on 9 WRs in 23 picks.

NEW ENGLAND

1 Harry HAHAHA next year right?
2 Branch, Jackson ,Dobson, Johnson
3 Tate, Price

Thus far NE has hit on 1 WR out of 7 pics for a 14% success rate, but give NE 6 more picks like Pitt and you will see.

Add another 1st pick because the Pats dont miss on 1st round WRs.
Add another 2nd pick because NE found Branch 18 years ago amongst 4 - 2nd round picks.
Add 4 more 3rd round WRs picks because the Pats have never hit on even 1 - 3rd round WR in 20 years.

4 Boyce, Mitchell I suppose you have to consider Mitchell a HIT when he bar for WR draft success is so low. A 1 year WR rental does not do it for me, the Homers seem very happy.
5 Sam, Slater.
6 Berrios
7 Givens, Ebert, Lucien, Gallon

NE has hit on 2 WRs out of 9 picks for a 22% success rate.

Summary NE has hit on 3 WRs out of 16 picks

Its all lies and BS. Next we will hear about NE drafting so low in draft. The Steelers win as well and they dont draft at the top of the rounds yet they can find WRs. The bottom line is that I cant waste my whole arguing nonsense with a HOMER like DuhBruinz.

Out of those receivers the Pats passed up on, AJ Brown hurts the most. I don’t care so much about Metcalf or Samuel. Brown is turning into a superstar.

It's very clear that the reason why our WRs suck is because our offense is too complicated. Sanu recently came out and said that he understood the Atlanta playbook like the back of his hand, but when it came to NE's playbook he was lost. It's no secret that NE is the place where WRs come to die...at this point, I am ready to overhaul the EP offense into something in which our WRs and TEs can develop.
It’s not the system. It’s the prospects. Which WR who was drafted by the Pats sucked and went on elsewhere to have a productive career during BB’s tenure? I can think of exactly 0.

Ok, but we've seen good receivers come to NE and end up sucking here too...

Deion Branch might be the only WR who was drafted by NE during the Belichick era who ended up being productive outside NE...

Houston listening to offers for Stills, Fuller, Cooks.
How much for all three ? We’ll take a package.

I personally do not care how the Patriots obtain their WR as long as they are productive. They have clearly not acquired quality WR the past few years and with Edelman aging quickly and Harry struggling they absolutely need to address this issue. The Pats had one of the most prolific passing attacks throughout the dynasty and most of the players they picked up were on the cheap. Moss and AB were reclamation projects, Welker cost them a second, Lafell, Hogan and Branch part 2 were cheap mid tier players that were productive. Cooks cost a 1st round pick but his contract was still manageable and they immediately flipped him when the $ was about to become an issue. Maybe they will need to change their approach a little without Brady and sign someone like Juju, Goodwin or a TY Hilton this off season.

Like who?

Maybe Fuller. Stills and Cooks? No, thank you and been there, done that.

Sanu and Ocho Cinco were good receivers. Also, Reggie Wayne quit in the middle of training camp because it was too hard.
Sanu was hurt (and might be done) and the other two were done. The latter two did nothing else after leaving New England.

I truly believe years from now BBs last draft pick will be a WR who goes on to break all of Jerry and Moss' records.
The only way that a Belichick Drafted WR could break Jerry Rice’s records would be if NFL switched to a baseball 162 game season.
