Cam wasn't getting it done even with people being open. Byrd was WIDE open and Cam over-threw him.
What I saw today from the QB position was horrifying. Best way to put it. Seriously- I cringed every time a ball was in the air.

Might have been a top 5 worst QBing performances I have ever seen on the Patriots and I’ve seen some doozies over the years.

Its so weird I know nothing about playing QB and idk if it's cause Brady wad here for so long..but there was so many times I was screaming at the TV for Cam to audible out the play..the rush is coming, get rid of the ball, wait for the play to develop before you throw it..(i think he got Harry hurt)....

Green Bay was certainly considered to be in that tier of teams going into the TB game, no?

Yes, they are a top team in the NFC. I do think , however, the AFC teams I listed are a different animal completely, especially KC.

This was a bad matchup for our D . But if our offense had put together some ppints , it might have gotten the 49ers of their gameplan and make jimmy throw. They never needed it. just handed it off to whoever they wanted. It is easy to do that when you have lead and the other QB cant make a throw or a 1st down.
What we didnt do on offense i felt , was to rush more . they tried throwing way to early. they shouldve rushed on all 3 downs . Even the first FG , they shouldve rushed twice. The oline and the RBs are our only hope and they need to ride them. Yes the QB cant be hidden but really dont need him to do too many things right now when he cant complete a pass..

Our defense was built to stop the likeness of KC. The downside to that is we then become ill-equipped to handle the short game and the stretch offense Shanny likes to run- all the motion he does, and the sweeps and crack tosses that bend the edges.

I don't think they so much quit. I know that Andrews looked embarrassed.

It's hard to be "energetic" when your "LEADER" in Newton screws you so badly in the 1st half. It's pretty bad when Newton makes you want for Marc Sanchez as the QB..
This is not what I saw. While Newton may have missed an open Byrd, far more often there was no one open to throw it to.

I would just say that they are great together...they both needed each other and made each other great...The first super bowl we won against the Rams because of the great defense and time management to keep the greatest show on turf off the field. They are both the GOAT's , but I'd be shocked if either won a Super Bowl without the other.
Gotta disagree with your last sentence, Ashley. They're both the GOATs, so both of them wouldve won at least one SB w/o the other. You cant keep greatness down.
But Im pretty sure neither one of them wouldve wonon 6 SBs w/o each other.
We were very lucky over the past 20 years to watch the greatest nfl dynasty. It wont be replicated in our lifetimes.
Coaching means more in the NFL than in any other team sport, but Belichick himself has always said " players win games". So I give Brady slightly more credit for the dynasty than Belichick. But only slightly.

No bright spots today.
If Stidham is as good as Hugh Millen, put him in. Maybe there will be a Bledsoe in a few years.

The running game was a bright spot. The O-line, when given the chance, can allow the Pats to run the ball effectively.

I stand by my stance that Thuney is a better Center than Andrews. Particularly when running the ball. Andrews is a very good pass-blocker and an average run-blocker. Thuney is an excellent to potentially elite run blocker and the same as a pass blocker.

McDaniels needs to do his job better in regards to adjusting the game plan. They get away from the run too quickly and then end up telegraphing things later..

Plus, Harris has proven a competent pass catcher. Use him with some play-action. Not doing so hurts the team.

On the plus side, Harris averaged 5.8 yards per carry.

on the negative side, Harry, Keene and izzo, all had only 1 catch each.

Why would the Bucs want Edelman? He’s fairly expensive and has been horrible for weeks
Why not?

let him rest a couple weeks and come back for the post season

He did identify one free rusher and made the "Rita" (move right) call, but Onwenu either did not hear him or didn't know/forgot what it meant.

Hard to pin the rush issues on him when he had a new RT to deal with.

Fair point and my dad always told me that players win games, but coaches can lose them for you. Not sure if he stole that line from somebody, but he has always said that to me and my brothers. lol

Yep. No way this era of greatness will be replicated.

This is not what I saw. While Newton may have missed an open Byrd, far more often there was no one open to throw it to.

Then what game were you watching? Cam was SOLELY responsible for every series in the first half ending. He flat out missed WRs, as he did with Byrd or threw the ball behind them. Not once did Cam throw a ball so that a receiver could catch it in stride in the first half. Harry going out was because Cam hung him out to dry on a pass and Harry took a shot to the head.

Edelman is not coming back next season, so either BB lets him go or tries to get something back.
You probably wouldn’t get a bag of footballs for Edelman.

not happy with the state of things, but I find it highly improbable, if not downright impossible that men like Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick don't have a plan
Not to be guilty of ageism or anything as I’m getting up there myself. But, I have to wonder if the 78 year old owner and 68 year old HC/GM are the problem and not the solution.

Brady not looking so bad anymore, is he? And to think some people thought he had a bad year last year. When you think of what he was able to accomplish with this offense, it only reinforces his greatness.

Bet youre not old enough to have seen The Doozie of all doozies- Joe Kapp.
Cam was 28-3 Tom Brady today compared to Kapp. Dude was brutal.

I blame N’Keal Harry

I think bringing in Cam was a mistake. They built up Stidham all offseason after Brady left, all the way until training camp was ready to open. Once training camp opens, Stidham is getting 2nd or 3rd team snaps, doesn’t even dress for the 1st few games. That had to mess with Stidham’s head. and NOW, if you bench Cam, the team may be in worse shape mentally than it already is.

I’ve been saying for several years, that the horrific drafts of the last 7 years are what ended this dynasty, unfortunately I was right. And Belichick has to take blame for that. He built an INCREDIBLE dynasty, the greatest in NFL history, and deserves credit for that. But he also deserves blame for NOT drafting explosive players for the offense, something I’ve been imploring him for YEARS. Unfortunately I was right and it’s proven to be the team’s undoing.
The Patriots have sustained serious personnel losses the past few years as witnessed by the large
number of compensatory picks. The trouble is that the replacement players are not as good as
the originals. At present, their only strengths are the offensive line (when healthy), running back
and defensive back; while quarterback, wide receiver, and tight end are disasters. Today's game also highlighted troubles with our front seven players. Not fast enough to cover the edges.
As you have indicated, the recent drafts have not provided enough first line talent and there has not
been enough cap space to fill the holes thru free agency.
