Patriots release All-Dynasty team

Choosing between Vinatieri and Ghost is a tough one- I think they got it right though going with AV. Without AV, probably no first dynasty.

Shows how stacked the 03/04 defense was. 2/3rds of the defenders on that list were on those 2 teams.

branch should be an honorable mention at least. As good and clutch as amendola was branch did more in both regular season and postseason.

Now that was a defense that earned a nickname. The "Boogeymen" not so much.

this really smacks of "this season is DOA, let's do something to generate interest"

I don't really have any major issues with the list.

For comparison sake, here is the Patriots 2000s All-Decade Team.

HEAD COACH: Bill Belichick

OFFENSE
OT Nick Kaczur
OT Matt Light
G Joe Andruzzi
G Logan Mankins
C Dan Koppen
TE Daniel Graham
WR Troy Brown
WR Randy Moss
WR Wes Welker
QB Tom Brady
RB Corey Dillon
DEFENSE
DE Richard Seymour
DE Ty Warren
NT Vince Wilfork
OLB Willie McGinest
OLB Mike Vrabel
ILB Tedy Bruschi
ILB Roman Phifer
CB Ty Law
CB Asante Samuel
S Rodney Harrison
S Lawyer Milloy
SPECIAL TEAMS
K Adam Vinatieri
P Josh Miller
Ret Kevin Faulk

SpT Larry Izzo

Only the four players in bold italics from the Team of the 2000s did not repeat on the Dynasty Team at their positions. Faulk did make the new list, but as a RB rather than return man this time. (The 2000s team had only one RB, and no backups - 26 players in total versus 43 for the Dynasty Team). Milloy was "included" as an honorable mention; RT Nick Kaczur and punter Josh Miller were the only two players from the 2000s that were completely left off the Dynasty Team.

Expanding the list from 26 to 43 also allowed for the addition of special teamers Lonie Paxton, Bethel Johnson and Ellis Hobbs, who were not on the 2000s team. In addition Stephen Neal went from off the 2000s team to honorable mention this time around.

The number of players (43) seems odd to me; why not make it 46, which is what the amount you could have on a game day roster prior to this season? That way you could include Milloy, Mayo Gostkowski and one more (since Edelman is on there twice).

And here is the Team of the 2010s; below are players that did not make it to the Dynasty Team. Italics denote they were part of the 'honorable mention'. This list is longer than the one from the 2000s.

Flex - Danny Amendola
DE - Chandler Jones, Trey Flowers
DT - Lawrence Guy
OLB - Kyle Van Noy
ILB - Jerod Mayo
CB - Malcolm Butler
K - Stephen Gostkowski

LeGarrette Blount went from no mention on the 2010s Team to an honorable mention for the Dynasty Team, duplicating what Stephen Neal did with the 2000s Team.

two long snappers on the list? okay, i guess...
daniel graham is all all-dynasty te? ... slim pickings i guess...

Antowain Smith deserved at the very least an honorable mention...

and maybe he wasn't the greatest, but i think Russ Hochstein deserved a thank you nod as well... he filled in a lot of gaps during his years here... The Patriots verison of Utility Lou? lol ...

but i guess they were going for the best of the best...

Besides the murderer, I've noticed 4 other guys who did not make any list (2000s/2010s/all dynasty team):

Ted Washington
Brian Waters
Darrelle Revis
Dion Lewis

The first 3 probably because they were viewed as mercenaries, and I assume people feel James White's overall body of work surpasses the short peak of Dion Lewis.

Washington was only here a season as was Revis. Don't think those guys should be in this discussion.

If they could place two long snappers on the team, they could certainly place two kickers, the guys they were snapping for, on the team. And there is no doubt that Ghost had a bigger impact than either snapper. Also remember that he was far better with his kickoffs than was AV.

Dion Lewis was really only great for 7 games of the 2015 season. As amazing as he looked then, I am shocked that anyone would even consider placing him over James White. White is also an outstanding player in addition to his longevity.

It's a shame that Lewis's career was compromised by injuries and being constantly overlooked. If he'd stayed healthy, he might have been one of the best running backs of the 2010s.

True. It is a tough call. AV was here for 4 years in the dynasty, Gost for 13. Just hard to overlook the kicks AV made for us to help win those early SB's.

Tbh, I think his productivity from 2015-17 should have landed him more consideration.

One of 3 Patriots with over 1000 yards from scrimmage in 2017 along with Gronk and Cooks. Average 5 ypc in 2017. I like James White but he was never close to the runner Dion was. I digress, no wrong pick here.

I like Dion Lewis but he was never close to the receiver James White is.

The league changed so much in the past 20 years that it is hard to compare the defenses. Early 2000's were much more physical and defenses were still allowed to grab and take out receivers. The 2001 Super Bowl game plan would result in 20 defensive penalties in todays NFL. Chandler Jones, and Mayo deserve consideration on defense and Andrews at C.

TE: Graham over Watson was an easy call.
LB: Roman Phifer over Ted Johnson? No.
CB: Revis over Samuel. Samuel never won a ring as a starter. They don't get to the Super Bowl without Revis in 2014. He's the reason they were able to go heavy man to man.

Lewis was way better and he makes White look like a stiff athletically. He was electric with the football. White has just been around longer.

the home run plays over the years dont really support that. The 2015 team took a significant dive in offensive productivity once dion went down with an acl injury.

this is one of those selections like the 2010s all decade team where butler made it over revis. Not saying its wrong as theyve been consistent with their criteria by in large, but an important distinction nonetheless.
