Belichick: "Cam is in the building more than any other player on the team"

It's a matter of the market.

He will very likely be offered less.

Consider: the league is about to go through a huge salary cap crunch as the NFL is going to lower the numbers. A lot of star players will be cut. Many will sign for much less. Belichick is the last person who will hamstring himself in an enivronment when there will be so many free agents looking for deals with teams strapped against the cap.

Not to mention that the vast majority of teams are not looking for QBs right now.

At the end of this year, it may only be Cleveland, Jax, maybe Washington, Carolina (not even a suitor for Cam), maybe Tampa if Brady retires. & when you add Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence as top 5 picks, I see only 2 landing spots possible.

Cam has basically no market.
Good heavens. You can't possibly know that after 3 weeks. There is going to be a ton of QB shake up just like there is every year. There will be plenty of jobs for Newton if he continues to play well this season. He is only 31. Bill is going to have to pay him to keep him and pay him a lot.

you have to pay QB's these days it is what it is. But its the most important position you cant mess around with it. I mean the difference between cam newton/hoyer this year likely is the difference between being a possible playoff team vs. being in contention for the #1 pick

that being said. I think people looking at Cam getting mahomes/watson money may be wrong. we may be looking at 25-30million$ a year. the contract Ryan Tannehill got is probably a good example. 4 years $118million. As good as he is on the patriots and what we do, hes not producing at those guys level yet...he has 2 passing TD's in 3 games.

we need to throw out the notion that bill wont pay QBs because of brady and his discounts. Those will never happen again. Heck, Bill was looking for ways to pay Jimmy G 25million$ to sit on the bench behind brady before he ultimately traded him if you believe the media.

The way he engages, with all that hard work, has an invitational quality to it in addition to the modeling quality. There's additional value that you don't get with the more introverted, quiet, diligent hard working style.
There's points in favor of both the strong, silent type and the motivational speaker type. Brady was cold, demanding, exacting and incredibly disciplined. Cam is exciting, passionate, outspoken, inviting and motivating. Both leadership styles are effective, as long as everyone knows what to expect and has faith in the leader. Cam's been making huge strides in winning that faith.

Nope. The salary cap is going to cause a dry market, with plenty of vets flooding the market. It will be easy pickins for Belichick.

Why can't I know it after 3 weeks? A lot of these QBs are locked in with big contracts. Look at Foles in Chicago. You think they're coming after Newton after what they're giving up for Foles.

Name the team you think is a possible destination.

The franchise tag probably works for both parties. It is a one year tag during the 2021 COVID free agency down year. Cam comes back looking for a long-term deal in 2022 when the market snaps back, and who knows what BB is planning for 2022. After 2020 some people are going to be saying that Cam is a productive of the New England system - after playing the 2021 season on the franchise tag, the "system QB" label will be gone and the market will have bounced back for Cam.

I know its keeps getting repeated and most people believe it but TB didn't really play cheap, sure he could have squeezed the team when his contract was up but overall he made the same money as Peyton if you minus Peytons first year contract but one was a number 1 pick and the other was a 6th round.

I like what I've seen from Cam so far, but, I'll wait until the second half of the season. Time will tell what the Pats have.

Not to stir the pot and be all sports-radio-takey but it'd be nice if Stidham was instead the guy who's in the building more than any other player. Getting a quiet sense that he's just not gonna be the long-term guy more and more
Being beat out by Hoyer is not a good sign. Hoyer is not a good QB.

I'm glad that Cam is in the building more than anyone else...because he should be. He still has more to go to learn the offense, and I'm sure he can use the treatment on his shoulders & feet...

In the Patriots 2 wins Cam Newton is averaging 160 yards passing.

And you want to pay him $37.5m/season?

when you can run the ball, you run the ball.....he is a big part of the reason they can run the ball......you have all kinds of shmoes throwing for 300 in a game where they’re getting crushed.....I’ll roll with the result and the fact that we may well be 0-3 if it was any other possibility

It was obvious in the offseason they were beefing up the team to run more, let's hope they keep it going.

The way bill talks about cam and the way cam has been on and off the field so far I'd be surprised if bill isn't very interested in bringing cam back next year as long as cam continues to stay healthy and be a great teammate and play well.

Would love for Cam to be the Pats QB for the next few years. He has made the transition away from Brady more enjoyable than I could have hoped. This week will be a test no doubt, but he's been great on and off the field from the moment he became a Patriot.

Why were his “celebrations” an issue.

Because while "celebrating" he was killing valuable clock time at a key point in the game.

Because while showboating he was putting himself into vulnerable positions and getting concussions.

Curious -- I haven't been able to see a Patriots game on TV yet but has Cam stopped doing his his customary first-down celebration?

I love the post-game outfits. Some people seem to think a QB should dress a certain way, but I think his outfits make it more interesting since the Patriots have taught everyone how to say nothing of significance.

I always thought Cam came off as a self absorbed peacock.

Does that make me racist?

could be, but with a guy like Brady, much more emphasis is placed in protecting the space of a stationary qb....I think that takes away from run blocking
