I have no idea who Vitale is, but if he is like Johnson last year and these TE’s can’t block, expect a similar year for Michelle.

Yes, if the TE's and FB can't block, the RB's won't do well.

duh!

Almost every team doesn’t require a FB. They also don’t have good blocking TE’s and plenty of teams can run the ball.

Michelle needs an entire entourage of blockers to be effective.

I’ll get on to Michel for his inability to be that dual threat rb but last year our line was a mess. Whether it was due to injury or what the right side was not good. He had Newhouse at LT for a good stretch after the Miami game, lost one of the best FBs and had crap for blocking at the TE spots. It’s no wonder his ypc was down from 2018.

If you want reasons for optimism, once the line become more cohesive later in the year from the Dallas game on Sony was averaging over 4 ypc. A lot of issues with the offense, Sony was lower on the list.

Which teams don't have good blockers and have a good running game.

From another thread but since it's draft related ... I'm not good at much but I'm pretty good at grading prospects & identifying patriot prospects ...
I wanted to see how well I've done regarding PTP & our drafts, so I started going through some old PTP stuff and found this ...

2020
Uche, Dugger, Unwenu, Keene, Asiasi
5/10

2019
Winovich, Harris, Froholdt, Stidham
4/9

2018
Wynn, Sony, Dawson, Berrios, Sam, Crossen
6/9

UDFA
Myles Bryant, De'Jon Harris, Lewerke

2018
2018 PATRIOT-TYPE PLAYERS.xlsx

2019 is on 1st page on my thread that year. It's here fairly close to page 1, top of 2. I'll link it soon.

2020
2020 NEP Big Board.xlsx

18 players in total, 15/28 drafted!!!! Again all documented.

I won't take credit bc I can't find a list but believe it or not I had Rivers, Garcia & McDermott as PTP going into that draft. Wise was definitely on my radar but I honestly didn't label him for some reason. @reamer & others did though. Same for Harry. Staring me in the face for years but I didn't pull the PTP trigger on him even though he fit the mold.

Just thought it was cool, 15/28 players that were drafted and 3 udfa.

Also this is a cool article. Good sense as why we picked Asiasi. I'm loving this duo & their versatility allows us to grab another blue chip TE next year as well.

Any guess who that third player they had on their list for day 2 was that Caserio mentioned ?

Winfield or Mims would be my first two guesses? Have to figure it's the prospects between Dugger & Uche right?

I am guessing it is wr van Jefferson

I'm also thinking Jefferson. I've always been under the impression that the Patriots value route running above nearly every other WR skill, and that Van Jefferson is one of the top route runners of his class.

My guess is either Delpit or Epenesa...

Yeah you guys are right: Delpit & Epenesa were not really expected to still be available at #60 ... but Van Jefferson (and Chase Claypool) were...It felt throughout days 1 & 2 that each WR on whom I was keeping an eye was taken just ahead of one of our next picks, a little earlier than I had in some cases thought/hoped...

In games yes. But come draft time they seem to love physical specimens who can't route run to get open (Harry, Chad Jackson)

I wish that Caserio hadn't mentioned that there was a third guy that they targeted in round 2, because it is killing me that I/we may not ever know for sure.

Why are people assuming that the 3rd guy was taken after Dugger? He could have gone before 37, given that Caserio never specifies where #3 was picked in the round. Mckinney could have been the guy (but seems too high profile and obvious) or possibly Pittman ....seems more likely than Mims or Jefferson, who seems like a fit but not in the 2nd. Winfield is an good thought. Kmet? Knowing BB's M.O. it probably wasn't a big name (doubt that it was Delpit, for instance)....Claypool is another possibility.

This well written article has me really excited. Chip Kelly used to play tight end and raves about the kid. Somehow has a combination of elite route running, ability to read his own option routes, yet garners praise from the OLine coach for textbook blocking. Love everything I'm reading about this kid.

Devin Asiasi a compelling fit for Patriots at tight end

I like what I see from Asiasi, he definitely is more explosive than his combine numbers. The fact that he may have been the best blocker out of the TE group is a great bonus. Our second TE we drafted is nicknamed Rambo, and is a workout warrior, so what's not to like there ? The last TE I remember being compared to Rambo was Mark Bavaro. That being said, if they can be added to the blocking game, and catch 20-25 passes each (though I wouldn't be shocked by more), it would be the culmination of some great draft choices.

Yep, I just wish he were 2-3" taller...and stronger...and more explosive...No idea how quick he is/could be either...Otherwise what's not to like?
