I really wonder if any pro athlete would want to play without fans. That is a really big ask. But I suppose if they want to get paid ...

Getting PAID >>> want

A lot of you guys are way ahead of yourselves here. None of us have any clue how this virus is going to go and if you say you do, you are an idiot.

If you're so upset, go complain to the NFL owners and executives. This thread isn't about what we think will or should happen, it's about a media report that the NFL is planning to postpone the season. That report may or may not turn out true, but the point of this thread is to discuss the fact that it was reported.

Apparently, the definition of an idiot is someone who has any belief in science or trust in scientists.

If we have a viable treatment (very possible), then there could be a delayed season, perhaps before empty stadiums. Without a treatment, the players CANNOTand WILL NOT be put at risk by practicing and playing.

We would technically still be the AFC east champion according to my weird math.

Ok, so we are apparently going to shut down the world forever. Got it. Let’s see where this virus is by late spring/summer before you lose you fu**ing mind. Sorry, forgot most people already have.

I think at best a 12 game season with stadiums limited to 33% capacity, but I think it more likely the season is flat out canceled because there's too much to fit into too short a period, and because so much has to be known and done in advance. (professional athletes working out on their own doesn't cut it)

Again, do you have a crystal ball what this virus is doing in late spring and into summer?

I can't imagine stadiums of 60,000 + coming back this year. I think 2020 is gone for sports which is a real bummer.

It looks so for me too...

Even when the economy does eventually get "re-opened", sports will be the very last thing that will be "re-opened" because of the mass gathering nature of them (unless the leagues are willing to go zero gate).

Cancel season

Brady retires

He never wore that **** uniform

That's a silver lining if I ever saw one

**** no I wanna see Brady play we only have 2-3 seasons of watching him left

Well they blocked me from even posting in the coronavirus thread. I guess it is ok to spread fear if you have a doctorate in health sciences but if anyone pushes back even slightly on worst case scenarios they get censored.

The money is in the TV contracts and TV ratings. The rating would greatly increase if we are still on lockdown. There are lots of sports that have contracts or can can get better coverage than now, EVEN WITH NO FANS. We were all set to watch the Olympics. Why wouldn't we watch various sports, even if there are no local fans.

For me, the issue is protecting the participants. For many sports (like tennis) this isn't a big deal. For football, this is more of a big deal.

Good point. God forbid we listen to the opinions of people who actually studied the subject and work in that field for a living. We’d all rather listen to the village idiot.

Now this ****ing virus has done it

Won’t shock me if the season starts in October at the earliest.
