Banning people traveling from China just meant the first US cases came from travel from South Korea, or Italy, or Japan, or Spain. (Or from China, since it was already here.) There was no preventing its arrival in the US and the China travel ban did nothing but maybe delay the inevitable by a few days, with a strong emphasis on maybe. The administration used the extra time it may have bought us to, uh, do nothing. So yeah, it really didn't make any difference at all.

You can't listen to what he says. He doesn't mean what you think he means. Don't take what he says seriously if it makes him look bad.

In hindsight it was probably a bad idea to welcome the Confederacy back into the union. It certainly was a awful idea to not hold them accountable for their treason and bend their every inch of life into the mold the union saw fit after beating their ass at their own game.

Beyond that, Trump doesn’t appear to have actually banned travel between USA and China and USA or Europe.

Mistakes were made.

Reconstruction actually worked really well under Grant, but elections in the south where literal violent insurgencies determined the outcome of local elections and the election of Rutherford B. Hayes through a backroom deal sealed its fate. Eric Foner's book Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution is a masterwork on the era, strongly recommend it.

Allegedly. I cant verify it and I've learned not to trust what I've read blindly.

But yes, a mistake on his part. The entire south wouldnt be a **** show who very clearly dont align with the liberal north had the union just willed their policies on them after the had the south capitulated their freedoms.

Now we gotta deal with a divide that's arguably bigger now than it was then.
