Should we trade Gilmore

It all comes down on what they feel about Stidham, if he can be an effective game manager, keep fighting but the reality is that this team is so poor in talent in all other areas that you have to consider if it is a 1st this year or next, or a package of 2nds.

Turns 30 this year. We're multiple years from fielding a competitive team, and if we don't find a qb, multiple years could be a long time. Trade him now while he has value.

He could and probably will, have value for many years.
CB is now probably the single most important position on defense in the NFL.
It's also a position where many of the great ones aged very well. You can go back to Darrell Green who played 20 years at the position and was still probowl-caliber late in his career. When he was more than 10 years older than Gilmore is now.
Champ Bailey. Sherman right now is still a very good cb. There are many examples.
You don't trade building blocks. If you have a young, talented QB,cb or ol you don't trade them. They're all positions that age well and also happen to be the 3 most important positions in the NFL game now.
Rb? De?lb? Wr? By all means, those canbe trade chips when they're still young. They have limited shelf life and are much more replaceable.

Trade him, and get as much draft capital as possible. Throw everything at acquiring QBs, DL and OL.

&?

Dorsett has been in the league many years and hasn't done anything.

Give Harry time. He may not get "many years", but I'll assure he'll be All Pro at doing nothing.

Michel has a degenerative knee condition that isn't getting better with time. 4.5 ypc as a rookie, and 3.7 last season. We'll set the over/under at 3.7 this year. What do you take?

"Iapatsfan" obviously thinks the Pats are devoid of talent and players never improve therefore Harry is already a certified bust. Prefers 4-12 to trying to be competitive as this has obviously been a fail safe strategy across the league. I may be proven wrong but am much more optimistic of BB and his ability to make the Patriots a viable contender in the near term and do not see the need to try and suck to make that happen. QB is obviously the key but unfortunately there is no tried and true method to getting a stud QB regardless of draft position. Am hopeful Stidham can be effective but if not they'll keep trying until they find one.

it would be a hard no if Gilmore was covering up a patchwork secondary, but even without him, we would have a top 5 secondary. Even if they traded him, you still march out

Jon Jones
Jason McCourty
JC Jackson
JJ Williams

It would fully depend on what you could get, but the needs at other positions are far greater than they are at cornerback now.
Most Teams would only dream of that above CB crew. let alone Gilmore.

Yeah, they really didn't have any notable players on the team other than Mathis, Bethea, and Garcon. Clark was an injury-riddled shell of himself and played all his games during the Curtis Painter experiment. They did let that experiment go on suspiciously long, though.

The team didn't get substantially better after that, either. Luck really polished a turd.

I have a thought here. Would you Cousins consider trading a player or picks to the Colts for the rights to Luck?
If he thought he could be a three or four year fix to play under BB, would he consider a re-boot?
Have a sneaky hunch he's not done. Now with Rivers on board, the Colts might leverage his rights.
Thoughts?

I thought about that but I think he didn't love football that much to come back from retirement. If that was the case and if he wanted to come play for Belichick you trade a kings ramson for him.

Are you claiming the Patriots have talented players? Outside of OL and DB, where do you see it? If you find them, you may want to tell Brady because he just left due to the talent level on this team.

My first reaction is no, that BB has learned that CB1 is the second most valuable position on the field. It allows you to double cover the lead WR, single the WR2 (with CB1) and shut down most passing offenses, even with a manufactured pass rush.

But I suppose the correct answer is anyone is available for the right price. For Gilmore it would have to be a minimum of two 1’s, ideally from a team unlikely to make the playoffs.
