Coronavirus RESPECTFUL Discussion Only! (Mod edit: Closed)

The drug he was discussing is being regularly used for Covid right now in the US.
Thurs he was talking about chloroquine phosphate which is approved for use

Trump said he was hoping it would be effective and Fauci said it had not gone through clinical trials yet.

There are many drugs out there which are promising but need further testing.

We all know Trump shoots from the hip but I don't see anything wrong with this.

correct, being ignorant of the facts does not make you a liar.

Plaquenil is hydroxychloroquine - the drug we use here for rheumatoid arthritis. Most of the world uses Chloroquine - used for malaria. Same thing - Plaquenil a bit less side effects

Are you calling him a moron? If he doesn't have command of the facts he needs to STFU.

He is not a walking encyclopedia, but he's the President and so people should listen. Did any of you folk have an issue with Obama lying about us being able to keep our doctor after they passed IdiotCare?

quarantine everyone over 70 and let the virus run its course. The economic effects of shutting down the country for 2-3 months would be staggering. Total death toll would be slightly higher but the economy would be saved.
Boris tried that in the UK. They've since reversed course, probably too late.

Fauci was not saying Plaquenil did not work or that there was no evidence it did. In fact there are several small group experiences reported that it does. He was saying there was no formal indication backed up by a large study. The drug is being used right now in this country off-label in many places - almost certainly in Boston, and for sure in New York. We do not have time to wait for a formal trial. If Fauci got the virus, I’ll bet he gets it (or the other new antiviral out there).
They are going through formal trials. Both the FDA guy and Fauci have said so. They can't just start dispensing drugs because the President "feels" it will work or because he is "right" a lot.

This is such nonsense. This is just a distraction from where the focus needs to be: testing, supplies, beds, capacity of the hospital infrastructure.

It makes you a dangerous, irresponsible *******. In the very critical, first few weeks of this outbreak, trump was calling this a "democratic hoax." Everything this government is doing now is just shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

As a result, it's a toss up whether we go Italy's way or South Korea's way.

Then he's an utter moron. He has two of the world's renown experts advising him, yet he doesn't have a command of the facts? Ok then.

You can disagree, but it is on treatment protocols in every university medical center and many other hospitals as we speak almost certainly

Or you could observe his behavior and the results of his dictatorship.

So is this an appropriate way of judging Trump's psychological condition?

I do believe Stalin to have been a psychopath. However, when people were coming up with psychology-based theories about Trump, it was said over and over again that you cannot evaluate any patient without being properly trained and examining that patient.

I'm not trying to give Stalin a break with the joke, I'm trying to give The Truth a break. Which is it? Can you or can't you tell a world leader is a psycho without examining him? Because if it's good for the goose it's good for the gander.

By the way, how did you miss that this was a joke and respond so bizarrely humorlessly? Or did you get it? Seriously, did you read that post and not see that while rooted in fact, it was intended to be humor, albeit cutting humor?

It's true that I think our response has been a comedy of errors, and possibly a tragedy of intentional worsening of conditions.

However, the particular joke about being able to tell Stalin was a psycho without examining him had much more to do with the double standard we apply to our own present-day occupant of the oval office.

Be that as it may, we're all in this together 13. Take care of you and yours, and live to one day stop being wrong all the time my brotha :D

New rule on posting....everyone has to take a sobriety test before hand.

Now is the time for rational thought & conversation. Not to share our deepest fears. it’s also a time for leaders among the general population to lead by example.

No soldier wants a general that is full of fear, anger and paranoia. When I speak with friends on the phone that talk fearfully, I ask them to stop.

Stress kills the immune system folks

What if you kill fear w/liquid courage? Come on now, do you want sobriety or do you want fearlessness? :D

We're all in this together... I'm of the "whatever gets you through the night" opinion.

He stands up there and lies and then his minions kiss his arse, it is unwatchable.

I'm only waiting for him to call the election off in November because it's a large public gathering -- or a prior enthusiastic use of emergency powers to perpetuate himself in power.

Pretty fair post. "We have only anecdotal evidence" is what he said, followed by words to the effect of "He just hopes it would work, I am waiting for clinical approvals."

I am not sure he'd be getting planequil if he got the virus, because it being safe for Malaria is not it being safe for COVID-19. I had a headache. I took an aspirin. I felt better. I have a blockage. I take a daily aspirin. It thins the blood. I feel better. I have a ulcer. I take an aspirin. I bleed out. See how that works? He's just saying, check on how planequil combines with COVID-19 before you end up killing people you're trying to cure, and while you're at it, get some data on whether or not it works.

The main thing is, chances are that about half of us WILL get this virus. So we should nut up and realize that much.

The next piece is, try not to get it, and therefore, spread it at a greatly reduced rate.

The last piece is, we're emerging from this plague a changed nation. We came out of 9/11 changed, we came out of the 2007-8 collapse changed, and we're coming out of this bio-plague changed. How we'll change is up for grabs. For the second time in a generation, though, the government is going to have to directly intervene and support the broad economy.

I think any of you who are really really concerned about the terrible terrible socialism of social security or medicare need to check what happens when we elect Republicans LOL... and more to the point, what Republicans do when faced with the necessity of a command economy.

"America will never be a socialist country." Okay, are you saying it's a fascist country, and you changed your mind, fascism is NOT a form of socialism? Or what? Because I am hearing from POTUS about how the nation will have to own certain industries. What the hell, last time we bought this big-ass insurance company, a piece of the banks for a little while, and Chrysler until Sergio Marchioni (sp) took it off our hands.

Right now is a weird moment, where we are thinking about the crash and thinking about the disease spread, and assuming everything would be fiiiiiiine once it's all straightened out again.

I'm sure it will be, but it'll be different (again.)

Found your 3-cornered hat yet, teabaggers? How about your pocket constitution? I know you're all up in arms about the right to free assembly being trampled! Wait what's that you say? They didn't have 21st-century epidemiology when they wrote that, no countsies?

What a joke that movement turned out to be.

I screen-capped this last night before it disappeared. It's originally from the chans, so as I said take it with a grain of salt. I capped the sources too.

Plaquenil was used successfully for SARS

This is the problem with what he is doing. Even on this forum there is confusion and misinformation being stated. Same is happening out there. A lot of people are scared. They are looking for answers. They don't need confusion and controversy during daily hearings intended to provide information and assurances.

At what point is defending the indefensible for the sake of party loyalty become wrong?

You don’t go far enough. It is a virtual certainty that we go Italy’s way. We have fewer beds per capita than Italy and our testing per capita has been poorer than them.
