With Brady gone and us in rebuilding mode, what are people's thoughts on signing Jameis Winston? We all know about his turnover problems ("problems" being a mild description). But he was also playing nearsighted and had surgery this offseason. (Jameis Winston undergoes LASIK eye surgery) With his talent and better coaching, could he be one of those diamonds in the *very* rough that Belichick and McDaniels can mould into a star?

What I like about Winston on a year deal is that if he plays like he did in Tampa we're going to be able to get some good draft picks. If he is worse, we're going to get great picks. And if Belichick and McDaniels can turn him into a star, we got a major steal AND it further cements their legacies as something more than Brady. At the same time, if Winston fails it just aids the long-term plan of rebuilding.

Thoughts? Other than Winston, we could go after Cam (who I believe is not a great fit) or Dalton (who will do adequate work and probably get us to 8-8). Neither of them have Winston's upside, which it feels like we should be pursuing rather than stability.

I agree except for the draft choice predictions.

You stated the 3 choices, and Winston is a reasonable player to compete with Stidham.

I could be wrong but I think it's going to be Stidham with the possibility of Brissett.

I mean, he’s cheap..? Wouldn’t be my first choice and plus he has some questionable character..

IMO, we need a veteran backup, even if the answer is Stidham.

Kraft wouldn’t allow it.

Most people eat crab's legs but he seems to like to stuff them inside his shirt. I'd say that's unconventional much like his plays downfield. Most QBs want to complete passes to their own teammates but not Jameis.

Let’s make sure we start a thread on every possible quarterback no matter how absolutely idiotic and nonsensical the idea is.

It isn't idiotic. If you really believe we're going to "find" a great quarterback in this league, you're kidding yourself. We either need to redeem damaged goods with a high upside or lose a ton of games and score in the draft.

Maybe Stidham is the long-term answer. But he isn't ready this year and trying to win now rather than playing the long game will haunt the team. I'd rather have a guy like Winston or Bortles that will lead this team to below average play for one year than become a mediocre franchise stuck in draft hell. Throwing Stidham to the wolves is another answer, but I'd rather let him gain more confidence for 2021.

My thoughts are I am drawing a blank ... and that's a good thing.

Yeah Jameis would be a nice fit for our path to Lawrence

We can't afford Jameis even if were willing to take a hair cut and back up Stidham.

He wanted 30 million and wasn’t going to be happy with the franchise tag. How would he like 5 million to play here?

Dude threw 33 interceptions in the 5th year? Not his rookie year, his 5th year. Peyton Manning threw 28 interceptions in his rookie year. Then corrected himself unless he was playing Ty Law. Oh, lets add 12 fumbles to his resume. He was playing with Evans and Godwin and had check down running backs with a te who either was poorly utilized by game plan or he was just afraid to hit him. How can a defense compete with that sloppy play?

I truly never want to hear Winston linked to the Pats ever again. He’s complete garbage and now Tampa is going to find out for the first time in their franchise what a true qb really is. Even in decline Brady is 50 times better. I’d bring in a 50 year old Doug Flutie before I brought in Winston.

I like people who don't throw 30 interceptions.

But seriously, I didn't know about the nearsighted thing. Would be okay taking a cheap flier on him to see if it was the eyesight. He's probably not the answer, but Stidham probably isn't the answer.

You might be on to something.

Jameis likes seafood so NE is a fit.

Below the neck, Winston is an elite talent

No way.

Keep em coming!

No keep Mr. 30/30 out of Foxboro....30 TD but 30 Ints.....plus he has a sketchy character past....
