BGC 2020 WR'S/PTP Thread

I wouldn't get too attached to any receivers the Pats are attached to in the media. The chances of them selecting people they visit with is very low. Probably lower than 10% chance of them taking this guy.

I remember last year, don't remember if it was Deebo Samuels or AJ Brown, but they were leaving Gillette after a visit, and said on their way out, in the parking lot to the media cameras, "see you in a month Bill". Apparently they were gushing about him, and they were so confident they would pick him. Apparently they were gushing about Lamar Jackson in 2018, had 2 chances to select him (picks 23 & 31), obviously didn't take him.

The media needs clicks, Nobody EVER knows what Belichick is gonna do.

Too many other needs and not enough draft picks?

Do you think we’ll go with another high WR pick two years in a row?
Harry is a BIG guy, but with no explosiveness, Edelman will be 34 before the 2020 season coming off of 2 surgeries. It makes sense to select an EXPLOSIVE WR who can play the slot and be a return man (damn you BILL, why didn't you draft Mecole Hardman in 2019 !). So 1st round or 3rd round, or trade up to get a 2nd round pick with your three 3rd round picks. It wouldn't hurt to pick another young receiver, this time with explosiveness. If they don't get another GOOD WR and a pass catching TE in this draft, I'll be extremely disappointed.

I plan on being extremely disappointed.

Call me a prisoner of the moment but with K.J. Hill tearing up the combine I really am hoping for him to be one of our picks. The guys route running is ridiculous and I think he can contribute early because of it.

It was Deebo and would of been a much better quick.

I think we are really overestimating and second-guessing the impact of other WR rookies in our current system. If a receiver isn't thinking the same as Brady on the correct route to run, they will have trouble with initial success for us as a primary target.

Malcolm Mitchell had some success for us down the stretch, but he had multiple veteran WRs (Edelman, Amendola, and Hogan) ahead of him and WR coach, O'Shea, guiding and teaching him the system throughout the year allowing him to gradually find a role that he grew into over the season.

We didn't have such luxuries this season, and the jump from college to the NFL for a rookie WR is already difficult in addition to having the correct timing and route knowledge for synching with Brady.

Deebo Samuel, a favorite of mine from the last draft, had trouble with routes this season even with his success according to what Shanahan said just before SF's playoff run:

Since we missed out on so many receivers we have a chance to sign pharaoh cooper as a free agent. He would be perfect in our offense and can return kicks.

Well, one way or another we need to get some speed in our receivers or it is too predictable again.....still hoping

Tearing up the Senior Bowl, not the Combine. My problem with Hill (or Proche), they aren't big, nor are they fast. So what are you getting from a guy who averages 11.2 yards a catch (Hill), IN COLLEGE ? What will he do in the pros. Proche averaged 11.0 yards a catch. If you're gonna put them in the slot, then ok, but draft them in the 3rd round or later.

I can see Belichick drafting Proche in the 1st round. Would not shock me at all. Because, draft guides may have Proche rated 3rd-6th round, but Belichick obviously marches to a beat of his own drum.

I loved Cooper coming out and he would be a vertical threat here (which we need, much like Hogan in '16), but this isn't the first time I've seen people on here in love with Cooper? Why? Hasn't done much.

Yeah, it's wild that there's going to be 7-8 guys in this draft graded above the best guy from last year. This is the year to double-dip if ever there was one, there will be guys available in the 3rd and 4th like Van Jefferson who probably grade out as well as the likes of Deebo Samuel or DK Metcalf.
Agreed and the tough part is you could kinda see it coming. Would have been nice if we could have waited or grabbed some nice value last year (Deebo-TM-DK) and added to it this year but I think we have room for a double dip. Even if its in the later rounds. Outstanding talent/potential this year.

He has 50 career receptions in four seasons and is a league average return guy (and teams average like one return per game)... so, uh?

What we're learning is the Patriots should draft the guy they're gushing about.

After Thomas and TM I don't think teams will let him fall out of Rd2.

It's so tough to project these guys. Thomas had like 100 recs in college. 90% in his last 2 year's at OSU.

Hill made money this week. Supposedly TM let him know how important it was and he listened.

Literally looking for that first one after seeing it earlier. Been a big fan of JR for a min now. Pretty decent gap between him & #2. Think he goes Rd1.

I’m hoping Jalen Reagor or KJ Hamler gets drafted by the Pats. They are exactly what this offense needs. World class speed. Total weapons in the Mecole Hardman mold. If they double dip, which they should’ve done last year, I’m hoping for Reagor (my preference) or Hamler, and then a bigger receiver like Antonio Gandy-Golden, or Omar Bayless, or Denzel Mims or Chase Claypool.

Wouldn’t shock me if they didn’t draft any receivers, but the above scenario + a pass catching TE would be ideal to rebuild this offense.
