Thats a huge loss for the Panthers

"There's only one way to play this game since I was a little kid. It's to play fast, play physical, play strong. And at this point I don't know if I'm able to do that anymore... I still want to play but I don't think it's the right decision" -Luke Kuechly

Sounds like it's either the concussions or the series of injuries (or both). That's too bad, but I hope he's able to get away clean for the long run.

A shame, but it’s the right call. Had to be hell for his family to see him struggle with so many concussions.

Not surprised, that concussion he had was scary. Surprised he came back at all.

Welcome to the Carolina Panthers, Joe Brady!

Umm, we do have some news for you...

Respect to Luke on making obviously a tough decision. Top 10 pick money plus the big second contract. Hope he enjoys life after football.

That's really too bad, wonder if something was discovered during end of year physicals?

There was a game a few years ago where he had a concussion and was carted off. When getting carted off, he was crying. I can’t guarantee this. But I believe I remember hearing that the crying was actually a natural reaction from the trauma he was experiencing from being concussed.

Remembering that, I always had a strong feeling he would retire early.

One of the greatest to ever do it. Great all-around player. Him & Davis were so good together. Sad hopefully he lives a long healthy life.

Force a trade before training camp welcome to NE. Sit him as long as he needs at the start of the year. This guy is too good to retire.

What a great player. He was the reason I wasn’t as convinced the Pats would have theoretically beaten Carolina in SB50 if they’d made it. Great tackling and coverage skills over the middle.

I wish him the best of luck and I think he is doing the best thing for his long term health.

Pat Willis and now Kuechly. Historically great linebackers stepping away before they end up like Junior. Smart, and both are Hall of Famers

Kuechly was a really special player, I remember at BC when he would know where the play was going before the offense did. Didn't know if he had the physical tools to make it happen in the NFL but he sure did. Few linebackers in history were as good as Kuechly was at the top of his game. Brian Urlacher was a first ballot guy and he wasn't nearly as good as Kuechly.

Not worth it.

Agreed. He won't get GOAT consideration but he should. Arguably the best coverage backer out of all the big names.

Did BC proud. Except for the pi that wasn’t called vs Gronk, guy was a stud worth following even if he played for the other team.

He admitted to it years later. He couldn't believe he didn't get called. Can't blame him one bit for trying when we all know the refs don't call **** in that situation. I forgot about his concussions - I hope he's ok and stay retired.
