Yes that drives me crazy. Someone says "I literally looked everywhere" or "that is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard".

It bothers me more when it’s used but adds no value. For example, “You literally just made my point” really should be “You just made my point”.

The use of literally added zero value. I’m assuming many believe it emphasizes their point, but it doesn’t at all. Never mind the fact said poster already used the word literally in his 5 previous posts!

Hahaha. True but the word is lyrical but seems to be added for emphasis.

The dictionary actually changed the definition of “literally” to include “figuratively” because it was being misused so often. Sad!

Perhaps “they” mean to use the word “liberally?” I mean it’s pretty much a laissez-faire attitude. In fact, dictionary.com translates the origin of laissez-faire: “French, literally ‘allow to do.’” Hilarious.
