Pats beat Sox again

1) 3) The major Boston newspaper, the Boston Globe, continues to actively push their product and shove the Patriots to the side (Shaughnessy, MacMullan AND Ryan are all in Cleveland - - Ryan alone amongst the three columnists took a quick 36 hour sidetrip to Dallas and promptly complained loudly that he had trouble getting out of there on his way back to Cleveland). The Globe makes sure that there is always a 2-1 ratio of Sox to Pats coverage, yet, the new England fans still are enamored with the Pats.

Meanwhile, Globe circulation continues to decline and its ownership the NYT had a major external shareowner sell ALL its shares and the stock price hit a new low. Gosh, you'd think that a business under those conditions might just consider offering a product (Pats coverage) that a majority of folks might want? Nah!

1) Playoffs during primetime television period versus early season game at 4pm on a Sunday. If you know anything about the TV rating business, you'd know there is a big difference.

2) The ratings being noted were the ratings for the BOSTON media market. (The national TV ratings were even more lopsided)

Gee.. what should I watch, the 150th red sox game this year or what could be a preview of the super bowl with two UNBEATEN teams. Yeah.. this is really tough.
Should I give up just one of the SEVEN Red Sox playoff games to watch it.. What a sacrifice...

When the Colts are undefeated, this is a playoff race every week. The Patriots have never won a superbowl playing 4 playoff games. Its not like in baseball where you can just make up the 5 games back in September and worry about it then. The playoff argument has no merit.

The other thing you do not consider is people want to watch who wins. The red sox are always competitive and always will be because of payroll. How many people you think watched the 1990 (1-15) patriots vs the red sox? The Patriots have never looked better since I've watched them, and they may not look this good again for the rest of your life. The red sox will ALWAYS have a good team. (Thank the salary cap for this). As soon as the Celtics get started their ratings will be higher than they have been in 20 years. Why? Because they actually have a chance this year and people know that.

The Red Sox will have huge ratings tonight in game 5, what will the Patriots have tonight?

Your argument is flawed and biased. Not only have you not provided any sources to support your Boston ratings claim, you've backed it up with no logic whatsoever.

Any one who is a fan of both teams, and isn't fortunate enough to have PIP, or the ability to record one or both, or have two TV's, has NO choice but to watch the Patriots.

Until the Red Sox and Patriots both play 5 nights a week and are on at the same time, and play 165 games a year, and the Patriots beat the Red Sox on a consistent basis you still have...

Apples, Oranges.

I'm a red sox fan. But I can face reality. You are in a state of denial. The bottom line is that more people in Boston watched a non-prime time regular season Patriot game than a prime time Red Sox ALCS game. I hope the MLB office in NY is not as flippant about these results as many baseball fans. If this can happen in the best baseball town in America, this is the mother of all warning signs for the sport of baseball. The game of baseball itself needs to change, or it will go the way of boxing and horseracing.

Shmessy: What makes it tougher is that the two "unbeaten teams" of which you speak, that went up against Red Sox Yankees in theeir 150th game of the season were each 1-0 at that time (whoooaaaaa, "unbeaten"!). Secondly, they were both AFC teams - - so how could that be a preview of the super bowl? You DO realize that San Diego is in the AFC?

Shmessy: The PLAYOFF scenario last weekend necessitated no either-or situation whatsoever. They were all played at DIFFERENT times - - no choosing necessary. People could've watched all of them. More people (EVEN in Boston and even with the Pats having a NON-PRIMETIME spot) chose the Patriots game.

Shmessy: Of course people want to watch a winner. That is why it is to the Patriots credit to be getting these ratings. The Red Sox were averaging 8,000 per game at Fenway in 1966 - - winning and contention draw fans. What's your point?

Shmessy: Ummmm, bostonsportsmedia.com - - October 16, 2007. TV ratings are TV ratings.

Regarding the relative financial values of the teams, that came directly from Forbes magazine's rankings a few weeks ago. It's there in black in white. What are your "sources"?

Shmessy: You went off the rails there. "No choice"?????? Not unless your TV is stuck on one channel. Where did you come up with "no choice but to watch the Patriots"???????? Here's a revelation for ya: There are LOTS of choices.

Shmessy: Those Red Sox just work harder than the lazy Patriots.

Chowza just got owned
i think chowza uses the red sox sort of like a sleeping pill every night, watch a little then doze off, that maybe the problem with the red sox' all the tv's are on sleep mode, everyone falls a sleep and whoops there goes the ratings

zzzzzzzzzzz snork snark
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wha?
Is this thread still going on? Is the baseball game still on? Wake me up when its over so I can go to bed

It's into extra innings and they're bringin' in Gagne.

OK, now. If the Patriots rating tomorrow (1:00 pm Sunday midseason game against an 0-6 team) is 50% of what the Red Sox ALCS sudden death Saturday night primetime game, that would say even more than last week.

interesting thread; nice for me to realize that anyway the Pats more or less reached the Red Sox in the area

i think that looking the past it was very very difficult to predict it for obvious reasons

personally i follows only the NFL and i do not like at all baseball
