On a board with this many members, it’s possible to find opinions on just about anything. But there was no real groundswell of support for keeping the guy. There was just a lot of debate about the best way to approach it and if there was anyway to keep both, and ultimately there wasn’t. Basically, I really think the Garripolite thing is a bit of a myth around these parts.
Disagree. They were pissed when Jimmy was traded. They didn't care. Trust me dude.

Saying Jimmy G is a good QB is fine.

Saying BB f-ed up in trading Jimmy (which implies the poster wanted JG over TB12) means the poster is in fact a Garrapolite.

A Garrapolite isn't looking at anything logical, like salary cap space, Super Bowls or "GOATness". They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with.

Garrapolites just want to watch Jimmy start over TB12.

The only thing I wish is that Bill traded him to a team that didn't have the potential to win a SB...

Every team has the possibility of eventually winning the SB with the right system in place. The 49ers were not that good when Jimmy was traded. They have done an excellent job building that team.

15 mins or more will save you 15% on opponent QB rating.

pretty much. In the NFL you can turnover your entire roster in 2-3 years.

You might want to lay off the crack, Nabbongwater.

At the time of the trade the Niners were 0-8 and had a 1st time coach and GM and were coming off a 2-14 season.

I'm not sure Bill could have done anything better...except maybe send him to OAK:p

You mean every team has the possibility of winning with JIMMY G in place, baby!!!

it would be cool if steve can coach after

but whoever ends up being the Coach/GM and QB after BB and brady, the question should never be can they be similar, it's just how far lower will they end up being

sometimes i feel y'all forget we're talking about the greatest ever in both cases...the next ones to follow can do 50% of what these two have achieved and they'd still be 2nd best, and that would be an absolute win...

This guy used to look like a stoner with his long hair. I didn’t even recognize him now; looks like a grizzled, hard-ass football coach like Bill.

I'm a big believer in old sayings. One of them is "don't judge a book by it's cover." I almost made that mistake when someone here introduced me to this video...

The odds are pretty good that Steve Belichick will end up being a very good coach, if he isn't already.

I originally felt that Steve might have been better served going to another team to establish his own identity apart from his father. But clearly it seems like he has carved out his own place within the coaching staff.

Its one thing to gain the loyalty of those veterans who watched him rise from a gofer, to a quality control film rat, to a position coach, but it was telling to read about how glowingly he was described by a guy who didn't know him from Adam before TC. You don't get that unless you are the real deal. Glad he's here.

Jmd to run the offense, Steve to run the defense the next 30 years ?(whichever as hc). I guess the other one would eventually get hc tho if Steve is the real deal

That's what I see happening a shot at SB on the sideline as the head coach and a shot at BB in the box in a suit as the GM.
It's a distinct possibility now.

The secret is out, everyone knows that this defense is actually Steve's handiwork under his father's mentorship. And you can bet other franchises are paying attention too. Steve may be a head coach sooner than we think.

Tough, when a great QB is such a big component of winning a SB. When we traded them Jimmy G they were cellar dwellers. They drafted well and now Jimmy's showing us what he can do.

Any other franchise that got him would have probably risen in a similar way. There's a reason the Browns wanted him so badly.

Great article, thanks OP. Might be the most 'you old softie' side of BB I've ever seen!

Jimmy G isn't the reason SF is undefeated.
