Breaking: Mike Nugent exits, no longer has a good job

Injured Gost was a problem. Missing 4 PAT in 3 games is a problem.

Multiple Gost misses were the result of holder problems. And, again, Gost was not a problem in comparison to the other kickers across the NFL. I spent a couple weeks just pointing out some of the huge misses of other kickers. I stopped because it was so obvious that I didn't think I needed to bother anymore.

Or, to put it another way, do you think Chicago would have preferred Piniero or the injured Gost trying to kick that game winner on Sunday?

You're lying to yourself if you say Piniero.

So wait, they tried out two guys and picked one, but are now cutting that guy and signing a different third guy who was cut and replaced himself by guy #2 that the Pats passed on in the first place?

He's better than Nugent.

This season
7/8 from 0-49
3/6 from 50+
13/14 PA

I mean with Bryant you could probably feel ok about trying a 35+ FG with him until he proves otherwise.

And how much of this was inside a dome vs. playing against real weather here ?

Not trying to say he sucks. But gotta keep the weather element in mind.

He doesn't suck, he just isn't very good. However, he is better than who we used to have who really did suck.

I thought he was released because he stunk. Bryant that is.

He got released after hitting a 47 & 37 yard FG on Sunday. Nugent on the other hand got released after having a 20 yard FG look like a wounded duck, had a 29 yard FG blocked and missed a 34 yard FG, this was also while Belichick watched the Browns kicker hit from 38 & 47 with ease.

For some reason, I feel better about Bryant than Nugent... but I'm basing that on just about nothing.

You should base it on the fact that Bryant has actually gone 3 for 3 from 40-49 and also hit 2 50+ yard FGs this year

Can Jake drop kick?

Agree. The effective range on average should at least now go until 47-49 yards and not stop around 42-43. That is definitely a substantial improvement.

I get that the weather was lousy but I though all of his kicks looked lousy last Sunday. Also to the Ghost haters - the coach of this team knows exactly what he is doing.

So much truth....

We could have Justin Tucker (I think it is pretty well accepted he is the best kicker in the game CMIIAW) and if he missed a FG or PAT, there would be people whining that we need to replace him.

I'm a bit shocked there is NO ONE legit out there. This guy was a joke and glad he is gone.

I could see the headlines tomorrow -

NUGENT GETS THE BOOT!...and its wide right

his kicking style made me cringe
At first he looked incredibly awkward. After the first game he looked somewhat better on the PAT's, but still not comfortable.

I just read he missed on 5 of 14 fgs, the last two were slightly over fifty yrds. that being said I think he's better than nugent.

Had no choice. Can't be passing up FG opportunities because of a shaky kicker.

You can’t have a kicker like him in January when we’ll be playing outdoors. It was a good move, and thankfully we have 9 weeks to figure it out.

Good riddance
