Of course, Izzo would have understood. But McGinist didn't apologize. Players who punch members of their own team are not patriot "leaders". Belichick and the staff don't need defensive "leaders" to decide how those on the offense should run routes.

Can you imagine Bruschi doing any of this?

McGinist was a great patriot. He just wasn't the locker room leader that some would have wanted him to be. Curiously, it is Izzo who has always been that locker room leader.

I thought he was a very good player for the Pats... yes, he was demanding... but any player that wanted the best for his team did this.

I would have prolly done the same thing.

The heat of the moment... if he was really classy, he would have stepped Izzo aside afterwards and apologized. I'm sure that Izzo would have understood.

That is great and all, but remember how would BJ feel if a defense guy come up to him and talk about his offense? It's like having AD telling Randy Moss how to run route.
There're leaders in offense and defense for this matter. If Mcginest want to encourage BJ, he should talk to other leaders in Offense like Brady or have another WR talk to him.
Sorry but to me, defense should stick with defense and offense stick with offense. That way they wont interfere with each other.

theres a difference between AD-Moss and McGinest-Johnson

AD and Moss are the same age..or very close and have been on seperate teams..1 is a future HOFer.. while McGinest is like 10 yrs older than Bethel and he was a rookie with 0 respect in the league

McGinest never struck me as a "friendly guy"..hes a competitor..he wants to win. hes not afraid to call people out. remember Duane Starks? How he bad mouthed him after season i think?

Willie is the god father..hes the boss..hes going to tell you how it is and if u dont like it, he'll do something about it. i like the attitude

Except for one or two, are you guys new fans?

A lot of players didn't like McGinest, especially slackers like Bethel. One person that loved him was Bill Belichick. He was the prototype of the discipline enforcing vet in the locker room.

When he jumped on Izzo, Izzo had just failed to keep containment and cost a touchdown, I believe. It was a tough season.

I'm not positive, but I don't think everybody like Butkus or ray Nietzsche either.

McGinest got old like everybody and buddy Crennel offered to pay him double what he was worth. That's why he left.

i have no doubt players like him and coaches like him..hes a leader and all but i was just saying when i think of Willie..i never thought of him as Mr. Nice like lets say Tedy bruschi whos so friendly all over.

I know why Willie did what he did..i respect that.i was flipping on Izzo during that game and San Diego game where he completely got outrun outside bY LT

I loved the way Willie played here, a great Patriot. It has always crosses my mind how close he came to be coming another Bill Buckner in SB 36.

How true is that? I remember waiting for the other shoe to drop that whole game - I couldn't believe our underpuppy (that's a bigger underdog than an underdog) Patriots could really beat the Greatest Show on Turf. And then Tebucky scooped up Warner's fumble and sprinted 98 yards down the sideline - NE 24, Saint Louis 3 - and our victory seemed assured - but our elation was short-lived as we saw the flag on McGinest for holding Marshall Faulk. And all the Boston sports fan nightmares came flooding back - Ben Dreith, Bucky Dent, Bill Buckner.

Of course it turned out that we were on the eve of the greatest New England sports dynasty since the Bill Russell Celtics - but we didn't know that at that dark moment.

Of course

I'm pretty much totally agreeing with you Remix, I just didn't read your post completely til I'd already posted.

It's not a sewing circle, these guys are warriors who play in pain and try to dish out more to opponents.

If you're young and ****y or some doof like Steve Martin (remember him?) you're not going to like guys like Mcginest or Harrison at all, because they'll be right in your face.

They may go overboard sometimes but you respect them and probably fear them.

I don't think they vote for "Miss Congeniality" in NFL locker rooms.

The word was kock
