Has Burk ever been a highly disrespected figure on this board? I'd say right now is probably the lowest level his stock has been during his Patriots tenure, and I still have him making the team.
It’s a inside joke that I have with myself to keep myself entertained. It’s not to be taken literally/ serious...........unless, of course, you don’t take Da Burkmeister seriously....:D

Hes making the team. Hes no longer the shiny new toy. He has some durability issues but seems to me BB values him.
Guess since we are really drifting off topic, any chance Bolden gets cut again or is he a lock?

Bolden has $2m guaranteed for 2019. No way in hell he is cut.

They save a little cutting Burk but I think his value (IMO) doesn't justify the cut.

If/when healthy, Burkhead return kicks, play STs and some slot besides rb.

Just saying in another thread RBs are huge this year if this is the final look on offense (No Josh or trade)

We're going to need White, Sony, Burk & Harris to make solid contributions in passing game each week. No reason for Michel not to be if healthy. If not Harris will step right in.

Also should be noted that Bennett has played everywhere along the DL his whole career. Mostly from 4i to 6/7 but he lined up wide (9) at times.

I said this years ago but it still holds true. In terms of production & versatility Bennett is the closest thing to JJ Watt there is. Although there are a couple young guys that are really unbelievable.

Anyway the last thing I'm worried abt is 34/43. Its literally irrelevant in today's game.

That said even if we lined up in a 34 we could still have Bennett playing a different technique than what some are used to. Esp when you consider that amount of guys (KVN, JC, HT) we could line up to off set anything Bill might be worried abt. Not to mention stunts to the outside to free him up if we want.

We're very lucky to have Bennett here. Flowers is obviously younger w a brighter future but there play/production has been as similar as the players themselves.

Yes, and I think Bennett and Pennell are going to both make huge contributions to this defense this year.
That, plus a renewed Hightower and Collins flying around, and two legit shut down CB's behind that...barring an injury bug, this is shaping up very nicely.

Bennett, Pennel, Guy is a very decent front. Bentley and van Noy in the middle with Collins and Hightower off the edge looks frightening for offenses

We fuss a lot about the bottom of the roster, as we should. However, barring major injuries, I see the 10 players below getting almost all reps for the front 6 (your list plus the next 4). We could add 2-4 more front 6 players, but they won't play much except on ST's. For me, ST's and developmental players are the best use of these roster spots.

THE NEXT FOUR
key backups: Simon, Shelton, Winovich
ST: King
======================
COMPETING (pick 2-4)
Roberts, Butler, Calhoun, Wise, Parry, Cowart, Kamalu, Rivers, Sam

I would bet there won’t be 40 snaps all season with those 7 players on the field together. There could be zero.

I don’t think they run a base defense as far as the season goes. They are in sub packages most of the time, and I think their decisions on a base go game to game, they will run 3/4 when it suits them, and a 4/3 when they think that’s called for. As well as all sorts of permutations of them.

That makes sense to me, but fwiw the daily 3-4 reports continue:

You put way to much stock in the name on the jersey and not enough in the actual performance of a player.

Mike Pennel played 5 snaps in the second half of preseason game 1 and is taking 3rd team reps in practice. Yet you view him as starter what is your logic behind that thinking I’m just curious? They don’t think Mike Pennel needs reps because he is an all pro already? Is Brady taking reps with the 3rd team, is any starting level player taking reps with the 3rd team? No and no, Pennel is behind Shelton and Parry right now and that doesn’t indicate a high likelihood of making the team.

And what makes you say that?
Because we play 5 or more dbs almost every snap. And when we play only 4 that alignment is something we would not use based upon what Belichick has done. First we would have 2 DE and 3 lbs and second Collins wouldn’t be on the edge, KVN would.
That’s my opinion based upon philosophy and usage history.

Mike Pennel to you is like Trey Flowers to me.

Nick Underhill in The Athletic is the latest to question Wise’s fit in this current defense. I wonder if maybe the top backup end isn’t on the roster right now.
