What They're Saying: Patriots Duke Dawson Losing Confidence?

Ian Logue

It's been a long summer for Duke Dawson, who seems like he faces an uphill battle with not much time left this preseason to earn a role with the team.

If we never bring in another Gator again we would all be better for it.

I think Gerard Warren is the only Gator in the BB era that played well AND didn't have an issue here.

Heh.. “having an issue here”

Know who that’s referring to. That was a little bit of an issue, wasn’t it?

Thanks Urban. Stay retired.

...or bring in another fatally flawed CB prospect unworthily drafted in the 2nd round, especially one whom Bill traded UP in the 2nd round to acquire.

You’re crazy. Terrence Wheatley, Jordan Richards, Tavon Wilson, Ras-I Dowling, and Cyrus Jones were all studs.

Dowling was so talented. Such misfortune for him. He would have started from game 1.

He'd be approaching Freddie Mitchell levels of delusion about himself right now if he wasn't losing confidence.

Hey we still got some very good players from that Draft I kinda wish we Traded up for TE Dallas Goedert.

According to Howe Dawson got torched by Meyers on Monday.

Aaron wasn't even the first or the last. You got Spikes before him and Easley after with off the field issues.

Wilson has carved out a decent career and Dowling's problems were purely health related. Not fair to lump them in with the other busts.

Wilson has had an okay career as a part time starter for a different team. Dowling didn’t just show up to New England and have bad luck with injuries. He broke his ankle in college, and he had lingering knee and hamstring problems. I’m pretty sure he even pulled his hamstring at the combine so I’m pretty sure every scouting report out there mentioned he was injury prone. The durability concerns were out there before he was drafted and he ended up a bust due to not being durable.

There is a lot of grumbling about the weaknesses and the misses.

I think they are overstated. The % of “hits” and the ridiculously unparalleled levels of historic success in NE are the real story.

If he didn't have the injury history, he would have been a top ten pick. He was picked at the right spot, given the risk.
