Monday 8/12 Patriots Training Camp Practice Thread

I haven't gone to any training camp practices this year, but I'm tempted to go to tomorrow's, just to get a percentage about how often the team lines up 3WR.

I'm sure I'll get over the temptation long before tomorrow comes around, though.

Yeah, I got over the temptation as soon as I read "Practice from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM." It sounds like today may be the last real camp session we get to see this season.

Seeing a consistent drop problem with Maurice Harris.

That's definitely the wild card in this whole discussion. It would seem pretty likely that there's going to be a shift de-emphasizing the TE's in the passing game, simply due to the talent distribution. But whether that shifts heavier to 3/4 WR sets, or 2 RB - 2 WR sets remains to be seen. I'm sure a lot of that will depend on how quickly the rookies (both WR and RB) can learn to do the greatest variety of asks.

So were Dobson and Thompkins (with a little Sudfeld added in).
Right. From a cap management perspective, the team needs rookies and other cheap veteran FA signings for success. From a long-term perspective, the long-term in the NFL is 2 years from now. They need production, period.

In 2013 they had 3 rookies playing significant snaps. They won the SB the very next year by clearing out all those rookies and bringing in veterans. So much for that future.

They won the SB in 2016 with two of the same veterans, another outside veteran signing, and a new rookie. who helped the team tremendously down the stretch and in crunch time of the SB. He never played another snap in a regular season NFL game again. So much for that future -- they wound up winning last year's SB with two of the same veterans from 2016, two other guys brought in via trade.

Just saw this write up, wish there was a clip of it lol.

“Things did get a bit testy on Monday. During a blocking drill, Michael Bennett took offense to a Dan Skipper hold. When the whistle blew, Bennett took a swing and hit Skipper in the helmet. The offensive lineman responded by giving Bennett a double bird salute with both middle fingers.”

Patriots training camp: Isaiah Wynn takes big step forward; defense dominates

It's possible, and the Gronk-Hernandez duo didn't help, nor did injuries. But the 2010 Patriots were hardly rich in WRs, and Edelman only managed 4 catches in 13 games.
Yes. My belief is if WW wasn't in there he would have had around 40-50 catches.

He might not come off the field much this year...
I don't know - Belichick might insist that Hoyer be the QB during the victory formations.

Really looking forward to the joint practices and game with the Titans , we should get a more realistic view on some of these guys and who can maintain their progress or step up again

I wonder if he is on the field more if that will equate to more bad wear on that knee...or if he is not running the rock and catching instead does that help save the knee a little.
