By default, Bill will have less time for the offense. Josh will likely have more responsibilities, including QB coach.

The only concern I have is what does his "gameday DC" role take away from. In-game strategy? Those times he notices these completely obscure details that only he sees that other coaches and players can benefit from? Coaching moments?

Quite frankly, I hope someone on the defensive coaching staff emerges so BB goes back to what he does best.

Upgrade for the D, but will you see BB huddling up with the OC/TB when the O is off the field anymore?

This maybe the start of the season and then he tries to bring Bilema (sp?) along. Or is there someone else could be seen as more/advanced enough to step up?

The potential is there for him to be the next fast track assistant -> playcaller -> coordinator -> HC guy on our staff. All we have to do is wait and see how it unfolds now, since he won't be promoted year 1.

Hmmm. I bet this doesn't last all season. It will allow BB to train the next guy up (and see who on his present staff is the best at it), and it will also give that person time to get used to the role without the media peppering him with questions, thus taking the pressure off while training ensues.

I think in 2010 he called the defensive plays as he will this season.

Was pretty decent for the Giants back in the 80's. Kinda a bland hiring, but think he'll do okay.

I wonder if that means they think Stephen is nearly ready. He's been a good coach in the secondary for a few years now. He has 3 rings and 7 years coaching experience at the NFL level. Is he ready to move up to DC? Because guys with less experience than him have become DCs before.

In my opinion, and this is JUST my opinion, Steve Belichick is one of the best uptapped resources the Patriots have. He's studied at his father's feet all his life and now has years of experience as a safeties coach. If you moved him up to DC there would be a few cries of nepotism but his resume checks out in my opinion.

The Head Coach cannot focus exclusively on the defense. The defensive coaches will have to fill the breach whenever the had coach is off putting out some other brushfire or focusing on what the opposing team is doing. Steve could easily wind up in the role Brian Flores was in last year -- not technically the DC, but doing the DC thing while his dad is the guy in the public eye facing all the criticism.
