Remember the picks were originally 32, 56, 64, 73, 97, 101, 134, 205, 239, 243, 246 and 252. The picks ended up being 32, 45, 77, 87, 101, 118, 133, 159, 163 and 252. I guess you can use either one you prefer. To be fair drafting with hinde sight isn't exactly fair so if you pick a player that isn't one we picked it would be only fair to pick him a few picks ahead of where he actually went with the exception of pick 32 I suppose. Obviously the further out we get in the draft the more this rule applies.

So what would you have done differently? What the same? Would you have kept our original picks or have made the trades and picked with those?

I'll go with the original picks I think.

#32 Dalton Risner - OT/OG - While the original pick has grown on me this is just too much value to pass on. Everyone was surprised he fell and come next year he's a replacement for either Thuney or Cannon and will save you a lot of money.

#56 Zach Allen - DE - While Chase would be great Zach is a true Patriots kind of player as well. Can't go wrong here. It helps our DL just as much and he offers a bit more upside.

#64 Dre'Mont Jones - DT - He offers a ton of great pass rush from the interior. While missing out on what may be a very good CB stinks this DL will more than make up for what we lose in the back end.

#73 Chase Winovich - DE - A double dip on DE? Yep. I just like the pick too much. Can't give him up now. I think him and Allen will be a force. Also, him and Allen are 2 very different players, so it isn't like there is over lap.

#97 Hakeem Butler - WR - IDK why he fell so far. But I can't let him fall past here.

#101 Amani Hooker - S - Can't pass on this value.

#134 Amani Oruwairye - CB - This guy isn't special in any particular way like the very tall Joejuan is. He's just overall solid.

#205 Emanuel Hall - WR - I hear he is a bit soft, I'll take the risk and see what happenes here... Stanley Morgan is also a guy I'd consider.

The rest of the picks IDC much about that much TBH ; )

I do regret not getting a RB and passing on RB help is too bad, but seeing as our first pick was used on a premium one I think that is forgiven. Pick up a RB somewhere. They aren't too hard to find overall though I really do like Harris as a fit.

I may have taken Moreau instead of Stidham (or instead of trading out of 134), but otherwise I can't really dislike this draft at all. I love what we've done.

I've debated this idea with myself, so I'll ask here too: How would you have felt if Bill had used #45 on Irv Smith instead of JJW? Would the price have been more or less palatable? And whom between them - or perhaps somebody else entirely? - would you have chosen at #45?

Irv Smith is a JAG imo.

My answer is that I would Not have made that trade at all...but if I did make it, I would've done so in order to draft Irv Smith and ONLY Irv Smith.

Not only would I have not made that trade, but I also would have traded Down with KC from 56 to 61 and acquired 167...Exactly as the Rams did.

P.S.: I also would Not have even thought about making that trade unless LA surrendered #169 as well as 45 in exchange for 56 & 101. Bill should've DEMANDED it, or told them to Feck Off.

I try to do this every year and never manage to go beyond first round.

By the time the draft is over all new Pats are already my players as well, great behind the scenes stories about them surface, reactions upon being drafted by the Pats, scouting backgrounds on them etc etc - so it becomes pretty impossible not to draft exactly them despite having some other favourites previously or see value elsewhere.

f.e. i was pretty disappointed about the first pick - not about Harry himself - but because i thought this class offered some rare safe/elite value at other positions at the bottom of the first round (although the way it went no one really fell down from top OL/DL guys except Tillery so a significant trade up would be necessary). I thought Tillery was the way to go (since i didn't know about his ugly display kicking laying injured player - being absent for a while) and then Risner bc of his 5 position versatility and immediate need at swing tackle which he could step in being NFL ready as an OL prospect can be...

But after trying the redraft game yesterday i stopped at #32 - bc right now there is no one but N'Keal for me there (and then JoJu etc etc)..

And looking at your redrafts - no offense - but im glad BB has the job ;)

And with the 61st pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, I would've selected:

"DE" Zach Allen......or "DT" Dremont Jones......or Allen...or Jones...A case can be made for either one, but there is No doubt that it's either one or the other there.

I suppose this should suggest the following question: Would you have traded #64 for 77 & 118?
Because if the answer is No, then both Allen and Jones are there for the taking...although if we're still drafting Winovich at #77, then that's a lot of DL picks in a row; maybe too many at one position for my liking.

One of the few “fears“ i had esp. after Schiano came on is that he would make them pick Dream-not Jones. It was a slight relief when he left..

Wish him all the best on your board though ..;)

The above situation then suggests this question: If #64 wan't traded (for 77 & 118), and if you had chosen Dremont Jones at 56/61, between whom would you have then chosen at 64, Zach Allen or Chase Winovich?

Jones isn't what you consider a P-T-P?

I thought about taking Montgomery which is exactly who was the pick by Chicago at 73, but knowing we miss out on the only highly rated TE left I chose Jace. I know I went heavy on safeties but I feel it's a position similar to RB in that you can never have enough depth.

AJ Brown would have been a good trade target. I would have been fine with that. With or without keeping the N'Keal pick the same. Not that I am big on WRs, but imagine if the Patriots did that. Leave this draft with both N'Keal and Brown. I wouldn't even be mad if they didn't pick a TE. We would be a 3 WR set team and that is just fine if your WRs are good enough.

AJ Brown over Harry and Terry McLaurin over Damien Harris are the only picks I’d reconsider in a redraft. But I’m not so committed to either that I feel the need to do a redraft. I’m with @long distance , once the picks are made, I’m all in on the reality rather than the fantasy.

There are only 3 different ways this draft should've gone if Bill had maximized the values of each and every one of his picks (maximizing the values of your picks should be the minimum required of your GM, but in the case of Bill it is never, ever that simple).
Scenario #1:

1/32 - N'Keal Harry

NO FECKIN TRADE-UP FOR JOESLOWILLIES! Are you feckin sh!tting me Bill?

2/61 (after trade-down with KC for 61 & 167) - LDE Zach Allen

3/77 - Chase Winovich

3/87 - TE Dawson Knox

3/97 - OT Bobby Evans

3/101 - S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson or Armani the well-dressed Hooker

4/118 - CB Armani Oruwariye

4/134 - OL Mike Jordan

5/162 - LB Cameron Smith

5/167 - WR Darius Slayton

(If Bill hadn't spent #204 for Johnny Badmostly two years ago, then maybe this is where I take 3-tech DT Byron Coward or 0-tech Dontavious Russell.)

7/243 - QB (& TE?) Tyree Jackson

7/246 - OLB Jamal Davis, or Coward if he's available

7/252 - either TE Caleb Wilson or RB Alex Barnes

The reasons for the players chosen and where they were chosen should be fairly self-explanatory. The other two scenarios to follow...

This is the happiest I've been with a draft since 2010. If we end up with players who have the success McCourty and Gronk has had it will be successful. Granted some of those players didn't pan out for different reasons. Although I only picked one in the draft game I considered all of them minus the last two drafted.

So it's hard to complain. The one player I'm still pining for is Isabella but I can't find a way to get him without losing at least one if not two of our third rounders and I think all of those players are going to end up being hits assuming no injuries.
