I have to say, ever since I discovered this forum in 2013, this seems the most positive the board has ever been about a draft. Usually we are inundated with 'he is a bum' comments but you all seem pretty chuffed. As I don't get college football over here on my SKY package I look to you all at this time of year, and you have put me in a great mood.

My only real question is how the new CB projects. Gilmore and JC are excellent, so does this mean Dawson is falling down the depth chart, J-Mac could be on his way to safety, and Crossen is the odd man out?

This draft is perfect so far I am particularly happy we are not chasing the heir apparent (yet anyways)

Williams seems awesome especially to me. Pats have one of the strongest secondaries in the NFL.

I love the WR round 1 pick also.

I'm happy none of the picks have come out of left field. Even JoeJuan Williams who was perhaps the biggest surprise was getting 2nd round buzz. Taking him at the spot they did isn't crazy. It sucks that they had to trade up to do it but the value wasn't some horrible reach. A lot of people had him going around there even if the general public hadn't caught up yet.

Williams will likely earn CB2 reps at times throughout the season, although they may ease him into the role as the months get colder. Jason McCourty currently holds that role, but is another year older and certainly isn’t the future.

Dawson never earned his way onto the active roster from what I remember, so they aren’t going to wait around for him to “get it.” He should have more opportunities this year, though, so we’ll see.

Crossen could very well be the odd man out, here. It’s certainly possible that someone sees some looks at safety, too. Any way you look at it, CB was a need for the future, at least in my opinion. Williams should offer various options and matchups, so his size and versatility may have been too good to pass up.

We carried 7 CB's last season, and are at this point, playing a lot more nickel and dime packages, so don't assume that we're going to do much more than lose one from last year's roster.

Odd feeling throughout this draft: like the players dont like the draft.

If this was last year - or most other years - id be enthusiastic.

This draft offered unique opportunities for the team always drafting at the bottom though and the predominant feeling is about missed opportunity. Im not a “talent“ person but this draft offered some top talent at low cost and Pats had plenty of ammunition and core team in place to get what they normally can't. They punted and went their usual way - good physical football players with highest character, maturity, leadership (on most part).

So it is this draft as usual approach (that i normally love so much) in a special draft year that has me quite detached..

Big defensive tackle

The 4th round is critical for TE, DL and QB.

This draft does seem eerily too good . Nailed the needs. No severe reaches. Solid players.

They get a WR who looks like a big Troy Brown

They pick a CB who IMO will either become the next DMc or Chung.

They get the next Nink

They get an athletic LT who punishes in the run game and hasn't allowed a sack since 1999.

Only quibble is RB but the draft is all about getting good players. Harris is a good player who was not a reach. If Sony and Burk are healthy, great. If not...it's a need. He may be more of a 2020 need but meh.

TE is another quibble but whatever.

We could stop here and I'd be over the moon. Harry, Williams, Cajuste, and Winovich have each been discussed on this very board as potential candidates at 32. That's awesome value. Add in an absolutely prototypical Patriots type at RB, and I'm about ready to proclaim this my favorite draft already.

Did I mention we still have seven more picks??

I don’t think people are seeing the forest for the trees with Williams. Yes, CB wasn’t a need. At all. But I think they’re targeting Chung’s role for him while getting enough versatility to play on the outside in a pinch, if needed. That’s a big boy. He’s going to make it tough for TEs in the red zone.

Ha. Just said the same thing. His ability in run support and coverage inside inside the hashes should not be undervalued. It's plus -plus.

Just glad we didn’t draft super reaches that could have been undrafted in the second round.

While the running back selection seems odd, this offense does want to run more than they did 5 or so years ago when they were running the no huddle all game. Makes sense with Brady getting up there in age. Last year they went through an early stretch where it seemed like White was the only healthy back.

I am not really happy with it....yet. There is a lot of glitz in the draft so far, but I hate to see BB / Josh take a first round WR; they have a terrible track record with high-round WRs. BB just cannot bring himself to draft a WR who is not a Boy Scout, but great WRs do not come in that favor. And who knows what Josh was thinking with his bad picks at Denver.

I have other question marks. Cajuste was wearing two knee braces in a picture I saw of him and holding a DE. I love Joejuan, but is he fast enough? Winovich has the right attitude, but he does not look that strong.

Those are big time boom or bust type of picks. The Patriots, and this seems crazy to say for a team that just won the Lombardi, did not have the luxury of doing that this year.

This is a shocking post, Freddy Boy.

I’m happy with the players we’ve picked but that’s not even really why I’m happy. More because there were not a bunch of trade downs that set off a turrets syndrome attack
