Slightly different angle... what WRS would you take in the first round? assuming pick stays at 32

I think AJ Brown is the most skilled day one. There’s a few I’d take following a trade back though: Harry, Brown, Campbell and Samuel.

Another Terry from Ohio State? Remind me how that worked out.

Only if AJ Brown’s unavailable.

Drive the McLaurin, Baby!

Could this be the year we go WR in the first round? Sounds sacrilegious.

Brown is the only receiver I would take in the 1st. I would look at Deebo, Isabella, Campbell, Harry, Butler and Ridley in the 2nd (not necessarily in that order)

I would take Hollywood in the first though I don’t think BB would. And I would definitely add Terry McLaurin to your 2nd round list. Agree on AJ though (I presume that was the Brown you were referring too.

All in on AJ Brown. He has great awareness when running routes. So many WRs run past open zones or miss them entirely. Brown knows where to look and how to slow down when the zone opens. I think he could get on the same page as Brady.

Watch the route at the 2:19 mark. AJ Brown blows past the initial short hook zones from the CB and LBs, then slows down just enough in the zone before the Safeties which allows him to easily accelerate past the the coverage for an extra 20 YAC.

So many WRs just run past the zone into the deep zone or run full speed and come to a complete stop which allows for coverage to make the easy tackle.

Yup...Such a high ceiling....Deebo, Isabella, Harry, Butler all likely 2nd round talent
Ridley a 3 or a 4 (I'm a fan)

Hollywood too small frankly

Reminds me of Julio...Would be a star here

He's totally not a Patriots WR, and they won't pick him, but I'm completely intrigued by Hakeem Butler.

He plays just like Moss. Not as fast, and certainly more physical, but they share a lot of similarities in terms of routes and unbelievable catches. I think he's quite a good fit at X. Not too far off Gordon, either.

My dream? Trade up for Brown and Butler.

My only issue with taking Brown in the 1st is that this class is so deep at WR. We could use the 1st on a TE/OT/DE and then come back and take two very good WRs on the 2nd day. I could reel off a list of 10 WRs who intrigue me in the 2-4th round: Samuel, Campbell, Ridley, Arcega-Whiteside, Harry, Butler, Isabella, Hardman, McLaurin, Diontae Johnson.

I mean, he's not Randy Moss. He doesn't have the hands, he doesn't have the sraight line speed, and he doesn't change direction like Moss.

But he's 6-6 with enormously long arms, catcher's mitts for hands, and a 36" vertical. A guy like that is open the moment he steps on the field. Not a typical Pats WR by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd have to believe that Josh could find ways to make it work.

I get where you're coming from, because I'm really high on this WR class. But WR is the position where the Patriots need the most immediate help--and the one where they've had the hardest time integrating rookies. If a guy like Brown is significantly more ready day 1, it could make sense to pull the trigger.

Re Hakeem Butler

Height is the true mismatch when moving to college to the NFL. Speed isn't because NFL cornerbacks are mostly fast. Route running isn't because NFL CBs have already gone up against the best route runners in the NFL. But when you're 6-6, NFL cornerbacks aren't noticeably taller than college CBs and certainly don't get to that size. Butler might not be the best WR in the draft this year, but he might be the best mismatch weapon.

I’m starting to think they’ll have to trade up for AJ Brown if they want him. Probably not too far. A few spots or so. Houston worked him out, the Packers sit at 30 and the Colts need a WR. It should also be noted that the Seahawks are heavily linked to Harry.

If wr brown is available at 32, then...

A - bb needs to run someone up to the podium with the card.
B - some teams ahead of us did not do their scouting properly. There are only 21 or so players in this draft with 1st round grades and brown is one of them,

Definitely some of his better reps. That's a positive look at what he can bring to an offense. Brown + Boykin would be nice for the future. Watch him against JoeJuan, though . . .

Actually, I liked how physical they both got. Neither backed down. It does bring up one thing that disappoints me about Joejuan though. He’s not terrible in the run game but I wish he’d get stuck in more - he dogs it a little at times.
