Favorite Day 2 Receivers?

With 5 picks in rounds 2 & 3 would expect at least one WR maybe 2. Also looking at some draft boards there are a lot of options.

I will definitely flip flop 100 times before now and the draft but I am thinking of two molds:

1. Smaller faster guy - capable of handling slot duties, jet sweeps, WR screens but not ideal for outside
2. Bigger outside WR (ha ha ha, tell me another one... given the Patriots have never really done this it may be pointless) - Taller, stronger outside guy, good vertical speed, good blocker, think younger / faster Hogan, Brandon LeFell

With two new shiny objects the WRs don't look so bad.

I'll profile all these guys in my WR thread later, and I'm not separating them out by X,Y,Z positions right now, but the short list includes Terry McLaurin. Gary Jennings. KeeSean Johnson. Terry Godwin, Stanley Morgan Jr., Cody Thompson, Dillon Mitchell, DeMarkus Lodge, etc.

Ridley won't fall to the 4th, he's a late second early third at worst. Will be better in the Pro's than he is in collage. Underrated speed, very good RR, Great Hands, great body control. He's a patriot guy.

Kelvin Harmon is another guy everyone should look at as well.

Curious if you could lay out your reasoning behind the skepticism for Samuel but liking Pollard for his YAC. That seems to be Deebo's specialty.

Because Samuel is a 2nd rounder and Pollard is like a 6th rounder, for starters. We need some sort of short phrase to make it clear when we are making relative, not absolute, statements about a player.

So yes, they have similar profiles. That being said, I would take Pollard over Samuel with both of them on the board because Pollard is faster, runs much crisper routes, and has better movement skills overall (the thickness of Samuels seems to hurt him in this regard). Samuel looks like he has about a 5" vertical and runs schoolyard routes most of the time. Good hands on Samuel and good playmaking ability with his tackle breaking, but I'm just not a huge fan.

To clarify, I just looked up Samuel's testing, and he actually had a 39" vertical. But from watching him play, it looks like he really struggles to get any elevation in an actual game situation. I don't think he suddenly gained jumping skills between the season and the combine, so I would predict his NFL performance reverts to what was already on tape.

Value is certainly a valid reason to prefer one player over another. Pollard plays ST and has put up somewhat similar receiving stats to Samuels, and he's obviously done far more rushing the ball. I can respect that view. There's an argument that if it's a 2nd vs a 6th, Pollard might represent a more versatile pick.

Where I diverge from you is that i think Samuel is much more explosive in the first ten yards. He can get up on corners more quickly and force them out of their backpedals, and then use leverage to get open when they turn their hips. I went back and watched several games of Pollard, and I don't think he's all that advanced in his understanding of how to run a route against the defender; he might be "crisper" in space, because he's mechanically running the route a particular way, but I don't think he creates as much instant separation. I also don't like his releases against physical press coverage compared with Samuel's. Pollard is a nice utility piece, like a discount Campbell, but Deebo is a ready-to-start WR.

In a vacuum, I take Samuel every time over Pollard. Fun how different people can arrive at such different viewpoints on the same players.
