Colbert drafts the best available athlete, top players act as they choose because the coach allows it but the coach allows it because the GM not only tolerates it but continues gathering talent rather than building a team, the GM is secure because...??? Pictures of Rooney commiting unnatural acts with barnyard animals maybe?
After the embarrassment of the Bell fiasco if Rooney had a clue and wanted to regain control of their runaway train the Steelers would have suspended Brown for conduct detrimental, not rewarded him with a trade that got him what he wanted.

Belichick finds himself with an unruly child on his hands and ships him off to Siberia, Colbert gives him the keys to a candy factory.

Honestly I think Belichick deserves a lot of credit for team building but I think he gets too much credit for the locker room. Which isn't to say he doesn't deserve some or most of it but the locker room itself and the leaders we have on this team clearly set a tone that contributes significantly to the culture.

I 100% believe on a team without stalwarts like Brady and Slater that Gronk would be a disaster of a headcase along the same lines as AB.

$21 million in dead money!!!!

Yikes. First Pittsburgh get raped on the trade and then they have to deal with a brinks truck load of dead money!!!

Gruden still has 4 of the first 35 picks in this draft! Not a bad deal for the raiders, if brown’s head is right.

If you can stand reading through thousands and thousands of words about one trade, Bill Barnwell's write up on BSPN is well done.

Barnwell grades the Antonio Brown trade: Why Oakland fleeced Pittsburgh

AB has a good reason to feel underpaid.

His second deal got negotiated under the last CBA so before he hit years 3 and 4 when he really blossomed.

He is now age 30 and this was probably his last chance to get paid.

PIT has a lot of strange rules about who gets paid what and when, and under those rules, AB wasn't going to get paid.

PIT has mishandled this all along.

They knew they weren't going to be paying Bell or Brown, so they should have traded them a year too early and gotten something for them.

Instead they keep trying to keep the band together for Big Ben.

That's one way to go about things, but all it does is pushes a lot of debts in to the future and some day they come due.

PIT is going to be paying a lot of those bills this year.

AB has shown he is very focused when it comes to training regime and on field performance.

Now that he has the kind of contract he wants, hopefully he gets back to that stuff.

OAK will be paying the man, but I think chances are good he is worth it.

From our point of view PIT got weaker and OAK isn't a worry because they won't be a contender any time soon.

So, thanks to PIT for totally mismanaging their personnel!

Unlike Our Bill, who has the spine to just say no to anyone whose bill will knock the payroll
out of wack and just say 'Kthxbi, we'll find a way to replace you.' And usually he does.

Thanks for the summary!

Depending on if the Ravens can cover for Lamar Jackson's deficiencies, seems like this year might be when everything falls into place for the Browns to make a run!

One more AB article before this gets swept away by the rest of free agency:

Gruden's moves have a Belichickian flavor

Makes the point that Gruden like BB has enough job security to take the risk of bringing AB in.

And:

Gruden just added arguably the best wide receiver in football who is coming off a 104-catch, 1.297-yard, 15-touchdown season in which he was trying to get himself fired.

He (and GM Mike Mayock), traded Amari Cooper and his expiring contract to the Cowboys in exchange for a first-round pick, upgraded with Brown for less than what Cooper may cost and gave up a picks in the third and fifth rounds to do it.

He got Brown on a deal that – while fat – is comparable to Sammy Watkins deal and will soon be outpaced by somebody like, well, Amari Cooper.

He got a player who will be supremely motivated to make the Steelers look bad by being on his best behavior in Oakland (we’ll see how long that lasts).

And he got a player who can conceivably make his 28-year-old quarterback Derek Carr – who’s in the third year of a five-year, $125M deal – a more potent player.
That's a pretty interesting take. I don't think JG is anything close to BB, but I do think he's heading down the right path.

That's.....actually a reasonable argument.

I wonder if AB will be allowed to rent his own house during camp with the Raiders

Can't cover for a QB who can't play QB.

Can't cover for a QB who can't play QB.

Maybe so, but a good defense and running game can mask a lot of flaws at QB; they went 6-1 down the stretch with him and won the division. So it's just a question of how that goes over a full season and if the Browns are ready to make the next step.

So Brown leaves a team that their QB “cries” a lot to a team where their QB was accused of literally “crying”after taking a hit. Lol.

I'm not a particular fan of Carr's, but he can play the position. He got dropped 51 times last year, which is far and away the most of his career. If you're looking at offensive issues for the Raiders from last year, start at OL and coaching, not at QB.

House, dorm or apartment for the safety of anyone in the vicinity it would probably be a good idea to make sure he's on the first floor as opposed to oh, let's say, the fourteenth

But that was about Jackson and the Ravens.

I think Jackson was pretty badly exposed during their playoff game. We'll see.

Not much else to be said, other than LOL at the Steelers

It's The Crying Game. :p
