Pats lose another coach - Brendan Daly to KC

Well, Belichick now has to show him who is the real mastermind behind it all. He was doubted after last year's Super Bowl--he came back strong for this year's. Now he's the only one who will get credit for the D for next year's Super Bowl win.

It's probably the way he likes it. These guys have massive egos.

But--maybe he also knows now that he has to get Brady some WR help so that he can focus more on the defense.

Bielema as DL coach makes a ton of sense if he’s sticking around. I’d also keep an eye on Robb Smith, former Schiano and Bielema assistant whose one year of NFL experience was as Lavonte David’s LB coach when he was All Pro in 2013.

Another reason for the mass exodus on the defensive side may be that when
Greg Schiano is hired, he will be permitted to name his own assistant coaches.

Brendan had an expiring contract from what I am reading.

I find that very hard to believe.. I think BB will strongly consider his recomendations, but no way does Greg get to have his pick of the litter.

KC about some of our secrets is troubling

What secrets ? We are running exactly the same schemes and plays like everyone else.

That being said.. this one is pretty surprising.

I liked Daly.
He will be good for KCs defense.
They may target Flowers now
I really don't want him testing free agency
Lock the beast up

I'm not sure they're in a position to be handing out huge free agent contracts consider the players of their own who are coming up on enormous paydays.

Good hiring for KC. But let’s not go overboard on the loss. If Belichick thought the team had a better chance to win with Daly as defensive coordinator, he would of made it happen. It tells me he is very confident with bringing in Schiano and something he’s wanted to do for awhile now.

Too many folks are overreacting to these coaching changes. Losing Flo sucks, but look at everyone else that has left. If Belichick wanted them to stay, he would of found a way to keep them. Let’s not act like Belichick has been left to hang at the alter. He has a plan, and a lot of times we never see it till it’s in place. Don’t forget that. Speculation is fun, and I’ve got no problem with it. Let’s wait to see what else happens before we genuinely start giving reactions though.

wasn't there an article mid season saying there would be an exodus of coaches (and players) this offseason?

seems it's correct on at least one account, this is a LOT of coaches

am i worried? not too much, so long as we continue to have BB and Josh and Scar and Ivan, but continuity does count for something

Bill still here? Tom still here? Josh still here? Dante still here? Nick still here? We'll be fine.

I assume Bielema will take on the D line and Steve Belichick might get the promotion to LBs, which seems the standard progression. Then some of the coaching assistants will get promoted.

Fears is still here too. A lot of long-termers still remain.

I think you may have hit the nail here. Schiano is generally considered a short term guy and the thought was Daly would be the next in line for DC when he was ready. What if he wasn’t, he read the tea leaves and saw Steve Belichick is going to eventually get that spot? Would explain the lateral move, working with someone he worked with before.

Well, stealing #1 picks hasn't worked to reduce the Pats to the pack so maybe the new NYJFL* strategy is to decimate the Pats coaching staff.

Miami is one thing, but Daly talking to KC about some of our secrets is troubling...I really wish Bill hired a new DC from within. We could have at least kept Daly or Boyer. Hiring Schiano sent a message that Daly and Boyer were not going to get the DC position here.

Secrets? Everything is on film. Players move all around the league.

Come on. The secret sauce with New England is that there is no secret sauce. BB grabs players who fit a scheme and puts them into a position playing to their strengths and expects them to execute.

The only real exception to this below OC/DC is Scar. He's golden.

Flores leaving hurts...players loved the guy and he dialed it up beautifully. All the rest? Who knows?
