Just talking professional sports. My order:

Belichick
Auerbach
Cherry/Sinden?
Francona

Who are your choices?

The only one who even remotely compares to Belichick is Auerbach and Auerbach was before my time (plus I don't follow basketball terribly much) so I can't really fairly compare the two.

At this point it is Bill. Just look at what he did this season. Amazing.

Given the importance of coaching in football compared to the other sports, it Belichick hands down.

Loved Auerbach. What he did was amazing. But never got to see him coach. Did get to witnes him As Gm, Just the king of making the deal or just flat out fleecing teams back in the day. Made the 80’s a lot of fun for us fans.

BB is the greatest coach I’ve seen in my lifetime so I’ll let the historians debate the rest. Even though its hard because it’s a completely different sport.

11 in 13 years? Russell and Auerbach by a landslide.

IIRC, Auerbach only won it 9 times as a coach.....but was involved with 7 more afterwards from the front office.

Russell was a player/coach in his final two seasons.

Francona...lol. Not only do his accomplishments not belong anywhere close, but the level of strategy from a baseball manager compared to these others?

Yes, Bill Belichick is the greatest coach and coach/GM in Boston sports history and maybe in all of America.

Red Auerbach is a remarkable figure and certainly would also rank among the greatest in any region, but this was an eight-team league that generally retained the same hall of fame players each year. Belichick flips the roster every 3-4 years and competes against 31 others in a salary cap league where parity vastly effects every other team; it's like he's immune to gravity.

John Wooden would be very worthy of mention as well, considering the four-year turnaround of college players and the constant rebuilding. The only issue is that is college sports, so I don't know if it qualifies. I'll still take Belichick, though.

Red did it before free agency which has to be considered in this discussion. TB and BB have done it in free agency with a different cast over the years.
