Rule 17 Section 2 Article 3 (CONGRESS Getting Involved???)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Time to repeal the law of gravity.
(Outdated)

Even if they tried to recreate it, they couldn't - tired players, emotionally exhausted. Screaming fans. Hell, there might be some banged-up players feeling better or worse.

it wouldn't nearly be the same thing.

It's not a matter of "recreating" it. It's a matter of redoing the remainder of the game as if it hadn't happened. And, like I said, they have venue that will have fans in it coming up this Sunday. It's not like they couldn't play the remaining portion of the game with the two teams that are involved before the "Pro-Bowl" and give anyone with a pro-bowl ticket access to the game.

Here's the thing. When the league comes out and immediately after the game apologizes for a blown call, the league is admitting that it would have affected the outcome of the game. |

And, since it IS in the Rules that the Commissioner can order that the game be replayed from that play onward, I would think that a really good lawyer could make the argument to compel the league to replay the remainder of the game. And they DO have a venue they can use for it next weekend..

No, they can’t.

There is no contractual obligation between the league and fans/the Saints team to ensure correct calls are made. Neither fans or the Saints are entitled to a well reffed game. And if you open this can of worms, isn’t also fair to scrutinize every single play of the game? Were the Rams arguably screwed out of some points? Was there defensive holding they should have been called once to keep a drive alive? This has no legs legally.

Living in NOLA it’s like a funeral here today. My co workers were talking about this petition citing this rule and my comment to them was

“You’re talking about a league that spent 10 million for a ******** report because they didn’t want to admit they had no idea that the balls lose pressure in cold weather. They don’t care about your petition.”

That said, a similar scenario played out in our game. We took a 3 point lead with 39 seconds left (the rams would have had about 30 I think.) the chiefs forced overtime, we won the toss. Difference is Brady did his job and Brees threw up a duck that got picked.

Hopefully they make PI reviewable after this, it’s time.

heh....overturn the final score???

hey LOOK! Up in the sky!>>>

Where did you take that photo?! Did they launch themselves from trees or take running jumps off the hillside?

I was atop Pigs Peak...just south of Vegas

Not a chance this gets invoked for this situation. Goodell would destroy the league if he was stupid enough to do it.
you say that like if its a question ....
two sure things in life, water is wet, goodell is a stupid crooked mofo

Not a chance.

"SECTION 2 EXTRAORDINARILY UNFAIR ACTS ARTICLE 1. COMMISSIONER AUTHORITY. The Commissioner has the sole authority to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary and/or corrective measures if any club action, non-participant interference, or calamity occurs in an NFL game which the Commissioner deems so extraordinarily unfair or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional football that such action has a major effect on the result of the game."

Article 2 provides "The authority and measures provided for in this entire Section 2 do not constitute a protest machinery for NFL clubs to avail themselves of in the event a dispute arises over the result of a game."

Not a club action, interference or calamity, and it sounds very much like a protest over a call (I thought the NFL was already asked to review it).

In reference to outcome, the Saints didn't lose because of the call. Rams were able to tie, Saints crapped away the overtime chance to win, and then lost. I like the idea, because the Pats could then appeal the helmet catch hold and in the grasp non-calls, and go 19-0.

This sounds like the "act of God" sort of thing, and bad officiating is part of the game (a predictable part of late).

The plaintiffs have no standing here. The case should be summarily dismissed. Yeah I suppose being a STH might give them some standing, but I think every single sports fan on the planet knows bad calls happen.

Could this be a thing?

Michael Thomas calls for reversal of NFC Championship outcome

Saints Players tweeting it out....
Give me a break. Despite what the Saints want to believe, that play wasn't the last one of the game. They still kicked a FG afterwards and were up by 3, and lost the lead. Then they got the ball in OT, couldn't hold the Rams back and their QB threw up a duck. Then they let them get into FG range, and didn't even appear to try to block a 57 yard field goal. You lost because you all lost your minds and couldn't get past this play. TB threw 2 ill-timed INTs, put them in the rear view mirror and won the game.

I hear you. But saints fans have filed a law suit. Looking to be "made whole" they were inflicted "pain and emotional suffering"

Lawsuit on behalf of 'Who Dat Nation' filed over Saints loss, demands pre-Super Bowl hearing

I think that rule is in place because they'd rather have it in place and never use it than realize they need it and have to pull some amateur hour BS.

But it has to be for the most extreme scenarios. Like a coach tanking a Super Bowl because the mob dropped several bags with $ on the front on his doorstep and Buzzfeed News having footage that the SCO doesn't say is inaccurate.

Refs have and will continue to impact the outcome of the game. That was a horrible screw-up and it came at the worst time on the 2nd biggest stage in the era of social media and peak outrage society. But I think you could probably look at any close game and find examples of terrible missed calls so it'd be a Pandora's Box of ridiculous proportions to roll back the outcome of that game.

are the Chiefs going to demand a replay so that the ref can warn Ford that he's in the NZ?

I feel their pain but Congress getting is involved is ridiculous. THey should focus on opening the government. The NFL rules clearly do not apply here

"if any club action, non-participant interference, or calamity occurs in an NFL game"

The Saints had their chance to overcome the blown call and they blew it. A championship team should be able to overcome the blown call.

The change I would recommend NFL implement is the coaches still get ONLY 2 challenges during the game but those challenges CAN include penalties that would be reviewed by a 3rd party in NY

i feel badly for the idiotic saints fans who are still holding out hope for a game replay lololol.more people in power taking advantage of not very smart people to get personal gain. so sad
