I think you're the one who doesn't get it. In that situation where it's a one possession game and we're in FG range the one thing you don't want to to is force a throw or have a turnover. The safe play call there once we got backed up there was a quick pass, screen, or draw play to get some yards underneath and position for the FG.
The penalty there forced your hand in playcalling...
